If ever there's been someone who should be the stereotypical 1911 toter, it's The Gunny.
Read, and weep:

Sorry, LT. I'm crushed, too.

"Say it ain't so!!"
Ouch.
That does sting just a little bit.
I guess that I haven't been around firearms long enough to feel my 1911 drag... or maybe it doesn't?

Thurman: So, your message to the industry is: Don’t get discouraged and keep the faith?
The Gunny:
We have to just bear with it, put up with it until better days come. We’re making it. I still have my guns, you have your guns. We still have ranges where we can go out and shoot. I think firearms, it’s our natural heritage and our right to own firearms. And there’s nothing to be ashamed of in saying you’re a firearms dealer or owner or manufacturer. The bad guys get their guns from someplace else, they don’t get them from us. They don’t get them from the honest people of America who run gun shops.
Yeah, just keep the faith. Hang in there. I think it’s gonna get better before it gets worse, to tell you the truth.
I think that about sums it all up...
It sure doesn't mean sitting back and letting it get chipped away at...

I read this & thought
I've fired several hundred rounds at a sitting & no cleaning until after with no noticeable change in the handling of the 1911.
Maybe Gunny needs a new ammo supplier that uses a cleqaner burning powder...
or maybe he needs to use a bit less oil...

Or maybe a better quality weapon. 700 rounds, 2 days, no cleaning and my Kimber never even hiccuped. more than once.
I see he likes myths too. (.45 va 9mm) lol

I've even put 500 plus rounds of Wolf thru one of my 1911s on a Saturday, and gone out and shot IDPA (with Wolf) the next day without cleaning it, without a problem.

And I'll add that the ONLY gun I have seen go down during a training that I attended was a Glock.
(I've seen others malfunction in classes I was teaching, but it was either a Hi point type gun or caused by owner neglect)

Well, he's now a member of Team Glock, so i'm not suprised to hear him say that.

My 1911's can start to drag.

But it happens after several weeks of shooting 500-600/week with no cleaning or lubrication. In the end, I'm not hurt by R.Lee Ermey's love of Glocks nor am I surpised by his regurgitation of old school myths.
R.Lee Ermey is PAID to endorse Glocks. I'm not saying he not a genuine fan of Glock or that his appreciation for the gun is unjustified. But do remember which side his bread is buttered on. The man is paid for his appearances and he receives new guns for FREE from Glock...That's a pretty sweet deal.

Cracks me up!
Here we got a guy, hitting the nail on the head about 2A rights and
gun ownership, and most of the posters here are getting down on Gunny for his choice of firearms! He prefers a Glock. So what? I know it's all tongue-in-cheek but I think we have enough problems without creating more divisions, before you know it we'll have labels like "anti-1911" or "Pro-Glock".
I haven't been around guns enough to see anything "drag", but let the guy have the freedom to make a reasonable choice.

SO just because a guy likes guns I have to keep shut about his spreading of myths and propaganda?
I saw no one "getting down on" Gunny.
BTW, he HAS the freedom to make a choice, just as WE have the freedom to comment about it and discuss it.
