FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Remington to Sever Sponsorship Ties with Jim Zumbo

Madison, North Carolina – As a result of comments made by Mr. Jim Zumbo in recent postings on his blog site, Remington Arms Company, Inc., has severed all sponsorship ties with Mr. Zumbo effective immediately. While Mr. Zumbo is entitled to his opinions and has the constitutional right to freely express those options, these comments are solely his, and do not reflect the views of Remington.

“Remington has spent tens of millions of dollars defending our Second Amendment rights to privately own and possess firearms and we will continue to vigorously fight to protect these rights, commented Tommy Millner, Remington’s CEO and President. “As hunters and shooters of all interest levels, we should strive to utilize this unfortunate occurrence to unite as a whole in support of our Second Amendment rights.

We regret having to terminate our long-standing relationship with Mr. Zumbo, who is a well-respected writer and life-long hunter.

I believe it was a colossal mistake for Zumbo to make the comments he made. I am also personally upset over his comments. It is also great to have a place to vent our feelings about this issue. However, in posting your responses, please don’t forget the Forum guidelines. As emotional as this topic is, it neither justifies the suspension of our posting guidelines nor our well earned reputation for civility.

Good for Remington. I may have to step up my plans to purchase a model 7600.

All of this could have been avoided, if he would have given a sincere apology, not the "Hey I'm sorry you are offended at what I wrote."

Those are worlds apart in meaning.

It seems that Outdoor Life has pulled his blog. It has been replaced with a statement:

Due to the controversy surrounding Jim Zumbo’s recent postings, Outdoor Life has decided to discontinue the “Hunting With Zumbo blog for the time being. Outdoor Life has always been, and will always be, a steadfast supporter of our Second Amendment rights, which do not make distinctions based on the looks of the firearms we choose to own, shoot and take hunting. Please direct any comments you have to OLletters@time4.com.

"Interestinger and interestinger."

How can they pull the blog if indeed his statements are truly his own and do not reflect on OL, as stated by the editor?

Well, next the NRA should step up and say something.

And of course the Brady Bunch will trumpet how unfair it is for Zumbo to be treated this way for merely telling the truth.

I predict ripples, echoes, and repercussions, of this, for a long time, like up to the presidential election.

One thing to keep a look out for...

Is if Ted Nugent keeps that future hunting trip (using AR's ironically) date with Mr. Zumbo...

I would say that if Ted keeps the date, it should not necessarily put a bad light on him, but if Mr. Zumbo cancelled I believe that would be the proper thing for him to do...

Ted Nugent didn't make the comment, and I wouldn't think less of him and his efforts/support for the 2nd Amendment and hunting in general if they went ahead and had the hunt...

But I believe we will certainly hear about this very soon...

I wrote them suggesting an appropriate period of probation for Zumbo: one year minimum, after which his first six columns (at a minimum) should be field reports about hunting varmints and predators with AR-type rifles, competing in NRA High Power matches, and reporting from Camp Perry.

Followed by an analysis of the 2nd Amendment, and whether it's about hunting rifles or military arms.

I'll be willing to give the guy a second chance, but only after he does some serious penance and homework on the issue.

Open mouth, insert foot.

Thanks to Tommy Millner and Remington for the strong stand on their position.

I think the analysis should actually be WHY the 2nd is about ALL arms, not about hunting. No "whether."

Considering the ammo he has provided for the other side, I don't know if there is enough penance - my wife will tell you that I am not a very forgiving person, probably has something to do with my upbringing.

I think it is telling that Remington stepped up when they don't even make or sell the firearms Zumbo referred to.

Zumbo maybe should start practicing, "Do you want fries with that?"
