How does re-blueing affect value?

Post by Topbuilder »

I have a "T" series Hi-Power s/n T2237xx I bought quite a few years ago. (30  ) It was a carry gun, the bluing worn pretty thin. I took it in to a 'smith and asked if I would be ruining the value to have it reworked. He assured me that model was plentiful and would probably never have any real "collector" value. I told him to go ahead. I was very happy with the work, still am. He knew what he was doing. So, fast forward 30 years, now we know there is a collector value for the T series to some extent. A 60's used gun is worth as much or a little more than a brand new one.
So, here is the question... does it de-value a semi-collectable like a Hi-Power to re-finish it. Honest opinions, won't hurt my feelings. I made my decision years ago. This will be passed down to my boys, no plan to ever sell it.

Resale value doesn't matter unless you're trying to sell it.

Keep it... Enjoy it... Pass it down.

Sounds like a win-win situation, to me. :thumbs2:
