This is a great example of the problem with allowing the Federal government to "help" people. The original "Lifeline" program, had great intentions.

But like most of the Federal bureaucracies, the FCC wasn't content allow normal actions to identify potential recipients and has organized a bunch of costly advertizing campaigns. Since then, the original guidelines for participation appear to have been grossly ignored, turning the program into a vote buying scheme. I'd wager that more than 50% of the participants don't meet the 135% of the poverty line. According to the video, the "enhanced" program working as designed and buying votes.

Actually, the abuse of Federal programs by this one woman does not bother me. It is the doubling of costs, based on the tax labeled as a universal subscriber fee, that rubs me raw. There is no way that the Congress will not come back and increase the tax/fee, claiming increased costs while the selection criteria for participation erodes even further.

I hate to say it, but I think this is really helping Obama in Ohio. They're handing out phones like candy in Ohio and those receiving the 'Obama phones' will certainly want to "keep Obama in president". If Obama takes Ohio, it is an uphill battle for Romney.

You know, we all pay for those Obama phones. A cell phone has a Fed Universal Service Charge and a Texas Universal Service charge. Depending on whether you have regular phones or smart phones, it works out to about 2% to 4% tax that goes straight to this kind of garbage.

For $100, I can get a basic phone and a year of prepaid cellular service. That's less than $2 per week. Those people don't look too skinny to skip one McDonalds supersized meal each month and use that money to pay for their own phone.

This country is drowning in an ocean of debt. If Romney doesn't get rid of all this commie garbage dragging us under, his supporters deserve to get caught in the riots when the US economy collapses.
