XD/Beretta Mag Interchangabilty?

Without going into a lot of detail I have what I hope is a fairly straight-forward question.

You can modify a Beretta 92 magazine to fit an XD by cutting the d-shaped magazine catch into the 92 mag. The fit and finish may be a little off but it should function just fine as the XD/HS2000 mags were reportedly built from the 92 pattern.

If that is the case should you be able to cut the 92 notch into the XD mag (specifically the 16-rounders) and have it work in the Beretta?

Does anyone have both guns and be willing to do a dry-fit just to see the possibility?
