New XD

Post by RPBrown »

I picked up a new XD45 Thursday. Has a 4" barrel and stainless slide.

Going to take her and all her siblings for a stroll this afternoon. Will give range report later.

I will post picks of her and her brothers and sisters if I can figure out this stinking new camera. It's bad to be old and electronically challanged. I guess I can always have my 5 year old grand daughter come show me how to use it. :banghead: :txflag:

I have a degree in electrical engineering and I can't figure out digital cameras. I think they were designed by Martians.

Have fun with the new toy.

There are only certain buttons I touch on my digital camera. The rest are there for decorative purposes.

Okay, went to the range with her. She doesn't seem to be as accurate as any of her sibblings. It could be me not used to it yet though ( this is probably the case). For me it is shooting low and left about 2" at 15 yards compared to all of the others.

Good news is no hiccups at all. I think I will take her back by herself tommorrow to see if its me or sighting off.

I would be interested in your opinion of the trigger and mag release. Those are two things on mine I'm thinking of getting modified.

The trigger has a lot of travel, and the reset is rather long (at least to me).

Also, have you noticed that loading a full mag with the slide closed takes a fair amount of force? I have 4 spare mags, and they all seem to extra force. It's not that big a deal, but if you don't take it into account during an admin reload, your set up for a failure  (I proved that twice already  )

Actually my trigger pull and reset is not that long. It is a little longer than any of my others though.

As for the mag., I was hoping that that was due to it being new. I had the same problem with my G21 when it was new but did loosen up with usage.

How long have you had yours?

I own two XD's and am considering an XD-45 compact as my carry gun. IMHO the triggers are about the best you can buy over the counter with the exception of the 1911's.

If the take up and/or reset bother you there's a new drop in trigger kit from Springer Precision that is getting great reviews at the XD Talk forum. One of it's main selling points is the reduced take up and slightly reduced trigger pull (about 25%). Over travel can be reduced with the installation of an over travel screw to the trigger bar.

See this thread:

They are available from Pistol-Gear.com:

Pistol-Gear.com has an excellent reputation, great customer service and usually has the best prices available anywhere for XD accessories.
