Could the tide be turning?

We were to the Ft. Worth gun show yesterday and it was the same as in the VA story. History suggests that there is an uptick in gun sales after a mass shooting as there was after the AZ Giffords tragedy but it was nothing like this. I remarked to the people that I was with at the gun show that there certainly appeared to be a lot of potential law breakers attending since many were buying the very items mentioned in the possible gun bans.

The number of articles about proposals to allow guns into schools is more than surprising to me. I would have expected pro-gun forces to "hunker down" in the wake of the Sandy Hook massacre but that doesn't appear to be the case. The Federal government gun free zones have been the corner stone of their gun control outreach since the AWB was lifted. I would never have expected them to be openly challenged by other than the NRA.

The recent polls which suggest that the NRA is more popular than Obama are another indicator of change. Given the Liberal venom against the NRA (which I think is designed more to reduce its political power than as against gun issues), I'm almost shocked.

I admit that I often look for information which validates my opinion. I certainly don't want to get my hopes up. But the fact that the Federal government may be involved for several months in the fiscal cliff mess suggests that the raw emotions following Sandy Hook may have waned someone before gun control legislation can make it to the floors of the House and Senate.

I'm not suggesting that this is a time for optimism among Second Amendment supporters but that it appears that it might not be as ugly as I originally thought. Is there a glimmer of hope here or should I just move to CO or WA with the rest of the pot heads?

I for one have no desire to leave my beloved Republic of Texas. Whatever happens I will get through it in the greatest state in the union. I do hope as you do that the tide is turning but since when did Washington listen to us or even care what we thought.

Good discussion with Senators Feinstein and Graham about a range of issues.

Feinstein made it quite clear that her AWB would be on the agenda as soon as the new Congress convenes on Thursday. It was also specifically mentioned (by Graham) that the NFA registration for all the "grandfathered" evil black guns under the Feinstein bill would require the $200 NFA "tax".

They didn't call it a "tax".... I called it that because that's what it is.

You are right - I didn't watch Chris Wallace. I believe that Feinstein is grandstanding (as usual) and don't care what she introduces. There are a lot of bills that get filed by individual Senators which don't see the light of day on the floor. I don't think that her bill will either until something more happens with the fiscal cliff. We'll see if my assessment is accurate.

You just knew that there whatever she came up with would be a tax. She and her colleagues cannot think in any other terms. I've figured all along that her rhetoric about bans and the talk of confiscation was just that. Better to tax guns out of the hands of ordinary citizens.
I don't think that we'll see citizens throwing their Bushmasters into Boston Harbor but I don't see this registration/tax turning out well for anyone.

Slightly OT but I started watching "Jericho" at my BILs behest. Its interesting that even in that world, Texas stands alone and is to be pivotal as to whether the U.S. stands or falls to the "Alled States".
