India - women turning to guns after bus gang rape-murder

Like any sane person, many Indian women are apparently applying for gun permits now that it is quite clear that they can't depend on the police to protect them. From the article, it appears that the police have to approve the permit with the applicant having to justify the "need" for a gun (as in many non-Texas states here), resulting in many permit applications being turned down. The article also states that the vast majority of guns in India are obtained on the black market, and those guns subsequently make up the vast majority of guns used in crimes.

Hopefully Indians will keep Ghandi's words in mind:
“Among the many misdeeds of the British rule in India, history will look upon the act of depriving a whole nation of arms, as the blackest.”
