Very interesting story on WFAA about how Mexican citizens, who have long been "disarmed" by their government, are bucking the system and taking it upon themselves to care for the their families and communities:

Our politicians go on and on about gun control, but folks who've suffered under it for years understand:
"The movement so far seems to be well-accepted by local residents fed up with crime that plagued this stretch of mountain highway.
"In less than a month, they have done something that the army and state and federal police haven't been able to do in years," said local resident Lorena Morales Castro, who waited in a line of cars at a checkpoint Friday. "They are our anonymous heroes.""
My hat is off to them for taking the initiative and responsibility of taking care of themselves.
