As the name indicates, this is the place for gun-related political discussions. It is not open to other political topics.

Second prong of Obama's attack on 2A

Post by canvasbck »

It's even more clear now than it was before that Obama will use the UN Small Arms Treaty to continue to bypass Congress and have more power to restrict firearms. A lengthy article, but lays out Obama's plan pretty well.

One of my favorite lines from the article:
Amid the fog surrounding the treaty process, however, one thing seemed clear: an issue that deeply involves American rights and freedoms is back on the table, linked to the lingering problem of how to keep conventional military weapons out of the hands of terrorists and extremists.
Keeping military weapons out of the hands of terrorists is easy, right after you bury the terrorrist.

Even though the senate has to approve treaties with a 2/3 vote, this article also explains why we should be truly scared of this. :rules:

The treaty is a fraud. The "terrorists" and "extremists" aren't building their own weapons...with the exception of a handful of AKs made in small shops in Pakistan. Nearly all of the weapons in terrorist hands were legally manufactured under the authority of the governments that are party to this fake treaty, and nearly all of them were supplied either directly to terrorists and extremists, or indirectly via the rogue states and dictatorships those same governments sold them to. If the purpose was to stop the transfer of these weapons all the signatories would have to do is stop transferring them. So clearly, that can't be the real purpose of the treaty. I suspect the one real purpose of the treaty is to create a monopoly on weapons sales among the big players, both so that they can't be undersold by smaller players, and to control who gets what --NOT to stop it.

If he thinks his actions to this point have caused an uproar, let him sign and try to enforce that treaty.

Pffft. If he thinks that's going to help him get our guns, he's got another think coming.
:iagree: But it might be a lot easier on everyone if we can keep the Senate from approving the treaty.

We have to start drawing Legislative lines in the sand so we can punish the Representatives who cross them. This is definitely one. Vote yes on the treaty and you are history the next election.

It would seem to me to be easier to remove their weapons from their hands BEFORE you bury them. Otherwise you'd have to dig 'em up again. (EWww!)
