Self-defense training

A self-defense instructor has offered to train teachers in our school district if at least two teachers per campus will sign up.
Since I'm not very familiar with defending myself ( or anyone else) without a handgun, I signed up.
I'm looking forward to it and hope to gain some skills.

I do not want to say which district, but it is SE Texas, almost to Louisiana. Smaller district than what I was accustomed to in the Houston area.

I live here in Vidor so I catch your drift. I emailed the head of our district earlier to see what thier stance was on teachers and CHL's.

I got a response this morning. He said: , I am working with the board on several initiatives to further help the security of our campuses. I appreciate your opinion on this matter. The possibility of CHLs has been a part of this discussion although not a major part of the plan. The board is meeting this Monday and we will consider security again. Thank you for passing along your thoughts on the matter. Our goal is to listen to our parents and make the best decisions for the district.

Many schools are hesitant to allow (employee) CHL holders to carry for insurance purposes.
After the Sandy Hook shooting, my aunt (who works at the private school & daycare where I send my daughter) told me that they discussed getting "a gun" at the school, but found out their insurance would drop them. I wish schools were not on the forbidden list; I think taking down the "no guns" signs would do a lot to stop many of the school shootings, even if no one employed actually carried there.

I believe your right. No sign would be suggestive to saying that there's a good possibility guns are very near, lol.

Always baffled what "insurance purposes" has to do with anything when "Sovereign Immunity" is enjoyed for schools regarding almost anything other than "motor vehicle accidents" in Texas according to the Texas Tort Claims Act. Is that the cost of the insurer to the School District's attorney to file an Answer and a Motion to Dismiss off the Forms on the Computer to get the case dismissed and perhaps go to one hearing on a motion to dismiss?
