Carrying in yard

Post by blackgold »

I know this has been gone over and you can open carry on your property. I have an old house that is in a bad part of town and has been burglarized a few times and I still go maintain the lawn there. I have a fobus paddle I'd like to use to carry my XDS. I'm guessing my shirt will cover it most of the time as I'm not TRYING to expose it but will probably be visible at various times while bagging and such. Would I have to tuck my shirt in behind it to be visible at all times? I'm not really trying to show that I'm armed but want to be able to defend myself if the need arose. Also I know the strip between street and sidewalk is city owned would that be considered an extension of my property if I'm cutting it or do i need to do it before I arm myself? I don't think it would matter for this Q but I do not have my CHL yet. BG is under review currently. Even with my CHL I wouldn't want to carry IWB doing lawn work.
Thanks,
Brian

I OC while working in my yard all the time w/o any issues. The area I live, however, has 2 DPS officers, 3 local LEOs, and a Constable who live there too. And it's a good neighborhood w/o many problems.

The big question for you is, if you are living n a rough area, is it wise for you to OC. And that's something you'll have to answer for yourself.

As for the easement, that is still your property and you can legally OC there (again, I do it all the time).
