Question about the CHL packet you get from DPS

Post by Wildscar »

I was lookin on the DPS website and they ask for a credit card. Do you have to pay for the packet before they ship it to you? Just wanted to know before I give them all the info.

If you pay the fee, the DPS will create your CHL number and assign your PIN, which you will receive with your packet.

If you are going todo the course I recommend you go ahead and do this, you'll save a week or two when you send in your application and you won't have to complete the DPS yellow forms during your class.

Online Payment

You do not have to pay to get a packet. Online payment provides convience of payment with a credit card, but it obligates you to taking and passing the CHL class in a timely manner.

Ejector is correct, you will get a PIN assigned with the packet, this usually speeds up the processing by 1 - 2 weeks.

Instructor here. I'm not so sure the electronic method speeds up the process over that of a fully completed "hard copy" of packet. It is sometimes slightly more convenient - and more "convenient" for DPS to have your $140 in their (interest bearing) account even that much longer before issuing the license. ;-)

+1 on this. I really don't see much of an advantage in doing this. It was nice to get the forms with nice, neat info printed out. But, that was about it.
