I have a date.

Post by Venus Pax »

My husband and I have joined a new church. We didn't have anything against the other one (still friends w/ ppl there & left w/ blessings of the pastor), but this church gets deeper in the Word and we need that.

Most female friends at my old church were afraid of guns and wouldn't even think about going to the range with me. Some even asserted that carrying a gun was unwise.

At this new church we've been attending, I made it a point not to tell anyone at all about my carry status until I could "feel" them out. Well, I never had to. In a past conversation, my husband told the youth pastors that I shoot IDPA (he just called it competitive shooting since they've never heard of it), and they were interested. They finally figured out by talking to dh over time that I carry (I still haven't told them outright, and neither has dh).

Youth pastors are coming to eat lunch with us next weekend. She and I are going to hit the range near my house while our husbands practice piano at home. (Both men are amateur pianists.) She's looking forward to it and is excited about going. The only thing she has shot recently is a .22 pistol,so I'll start her off on my .380. It's the smallest gun I have, but I think she'll be fine. I'll watch her carefully and help her.

I know this is long, but I've waited quite awhile to bring other women to the range with me. Now, I have my first date.

I cook dinner on Thanksgiving, while my wife watches football. It's a different world.

Yes, you read correctly. We girls are going to the range while the guys practice piano. (Friends and relatives LOVE to harrass my husband about our diverse hobbies.)

me too

Post by Rex B »

Jim, your house sounds like mine. I'd rather spend time in the shop than watch sports, but my wife watches them all, complete with the vocals. I'll watch auto racing if there are right turns involved, but some people don't think that's a sport. And I do the cooking at my house.

Venus congrats on your new friends and new church

NASCAR!!!! There's right turn in there sometimes. Yeah, I have educated my football and basketball fan wife to the intricacies and pleasures of auto racing.

At \Easter dinner the other day we were discussing NASCAR and my sister in law wanted to know why there was no race on Easter weekend, so we explained Sunday racing and all that, but to her it still wasn't totally clear, after all there is football on Thanksgiving and basketball on New Years.

Then one of the other guests wanted to know if I knew what the NHRA was. I had to explain that I was a member in 1964 to 1967 and remember watching watching Maynard Rupp race, and racing against Shirley Muldowney on the the street near Schenectady NY when she was still Shirley Roque (All I remember seeing of her was taillights, I was glad we weren't racing for pinks.) I did have a small collection of winner's stickers and trophies but my mother threw them out while I was in the Navy during 'Nam, I think she was counting on me not surviving.

SCCA for me

Post by Rex B »

I'm one of those SCCA lifers, but lately my firearms budget is cutting into my racing budget.
