Say I walk into a restaurant that serves alcoholic beverages and has a bar (Bennigens, Chilis, Applebees) and all the tables are taken up. Is it legal for me to sit at the bar and eat (but not drink) while carrying a gun?
I was told that I was okay if I ever ate in the bar area as long as I was drinking iced tea.
Just wanted a second opinion.

Nothing prevents you from drinking.
However, there is no set level of intoxication specified.
For me, that mean's abstaining. Of course, I'm always driving so I couldn't drink anyway.

Nope.
Texas Penal Code
§46.035. Unlawful carrying of handgun by license holder.
(d) A license holder commits an offense if, while
intoxicated, the license holder carries a handgun under the authority
of Subchapter H, Chapter 411, Government Code, regardless of whether
the handgun is concealed.

Has anyone ever seen a resturant or establishment that wasn't posted, but had a section or bar area that was? Just a question.

I know the Chili's near my has one license for the entire restaurant. It's not a 51% place, even if the bar would sell nothing but alcohol.

Most restaurants that have bars also sell food at the bar. In my misspent youth my favorite bar was just that, and few people, beside those of us that lived there, knew you could order food too.
