Academy in Plano - AR Rifles back on display

Post by LabRat »

Hi folks,

Did a quick search and didn't see a similar topic.

Was in the Academy in Plano (off the Tollway and Parker) perusing while the wife got her hair done at a shop.

Noticed several AR rifles on full display.
I seem to remember they pulled them after Newtown and you had to ask for a specific model before they would acknowledge they even had them.

Now, they didn't have ammo (or very little) for these and the price seemed a little steep (~$1K) for some models.

Is this something new? Is Academy openly back to selling ARs?

Yep. I handled a Mossberg 715T .22 cal tactical-looking rifle.....Price was $289.
Interesting, but didn't know enough to determine whether it was a decent price.

WalMart had a Colt LE 6920 the other day. My friend called. I don't need two. Price was still the same, just under $1100.

The market for Modern Sporting Rifles has really leveled off. It might be that Academy now has stock to put on display!! The demand has slowly decreased after the run on the market, and the prices are coming back down. I've seen a lot of people who bought these during the panic, now trying to dump them and make their money back. Needless to say, it ain't happenin'.

Most my local stores have them in stock as well, the gun show this past weekend had a smith ar15 for $779, so the AR situation is more or less back to normal IMO. Now ammo, its getting better, but still no where close to being normal. A thousand rounds of 9 at the show was .32 per so it was good, but still .10 too much IMO.

Stopped in at my Academy this morning just to take a peek. Had Winchester Whitebox 9mm (couldn't see the grain count) FMJ 50 rounds for 19.99. That is .40 per round. And Academy has been the place that wasn't price gouging. I guess .40 is the new .30!

Interesting on the price. Colt LE6920 at my local WM is listed as $1,097 which is the same price as what I paid in 11/12. They had one several weeks ago at that price.

Price difference may reflect a different model, a basic vs. a Magpul MOE or SoCom enhanced version. All LE6920s, different prices.

Yeah, probably is. They MSRP at $299 - I picked one up at the last gun show in Fort Worth for $279. Mine has the carrying handle and the small accessory rail on top of that (they have another model that just has a rail mounted on the firearm - no carrying handle).

Now to find a couple more 25-round magazines.
