How much did what you wear change?

Post by anomie »

I bought some new clothes while I was waiting for my CHL to come in. I've pretty much always worn what I wear, the only real change was that I'm fatter than I used to be, so when I tried stuff on I kept in mind that I'd be carrying IWB. So I'm pretty much the same as before - jeans or khakis or cargo pants/shorts, t-shirt or polo or button up shirt - I've always worn stuff that was a little (but not too) baggy/loose anyway so it's really no different now.

How much did the way you dress change when you started carrying? I've heard people say to 'dress around the gun' but I how I dressed before was fine for me, I'd feel a little odd dressing differently.

The only change for me was opening my belt one notch. Other than that I changed nothing.

I went one size up on my shirts, which actually works out better for me as I have rather broad shoulders for someone my size.

Didn't change to much. I carry 95% of the time, but always carry when clothes shopping so that I can see how new clothes will fit with my rig.

Not drastically. Up one size in shirts, (which I probably needed to do anyway), addition of A-shirt, i.e. "wife beater" to keep the grip from rubbing my side, and change to kydex stiffened gun belt from CompTac. Pants are same size.

Only real change is I can't wear overalls any more. I cannot figure out a way to conceal a Glock 23 in overalls.

I haven't changed anything. I have worn my shirts untucked, before and after carrying. I don't carry if I tuck, unless I have a coat. I use an IWB. Haven't bought anything different from before, no special concealment clothes, etc. Odd, I read alot on how you will have to dress around your carry. For me, hasn't been different at all w/ clothes. I used to not carry, now I do everywhere it is legal.

I started buying Wrangler comfort fit jeans, they have a flex fit waistband that adjusts up to two inches.

The ad says "for instant added comfort", I say "for easy concealed carry". Just buy the size you typically wear and you can cc or not, always fits.

For shirts, I just buy 2X tall sizes - but since I'm 6'3" I kind of need that anyway. I typically can pull off a single X, but the extra size helps conceal. Usually wear square cut shirt tails in button down, or polos, sometimes tee shirts if they are long enough.

So yes, I did change what I wear but not so much stylistically, just size wise and the flex waist jeans.

Mine was just bigger waistbands, too. I've never been much on tucking shirts. I picked up a some of the fishing style button down shirts because I like the front pockets in them. With a gun on my right hip, I gave up my right rear pants pocket as too risky to be pulling stuff in and out of and needed other options.

At first, I got t-shirts that were larger than I normally wore to eliminate any chance of printing. Now, I don't worry about that as much. My middle has recently expanded a little and I have to be careful that the belly on the shirts isn't too tight but I'm back to wearing my regular sized t-shirts.

I went up a shirt size and stopped using leather belts and switched over to the instructor type. Depending on the holster I may also throw on a button down but I don't care for that much.

I carry 99.5% of the time I am away from the house and about 50% of the time I'm at the house. I haven't changed my dress at all thanks to my Crossbreed holster. I have thought about adding a cover shirt over a t-shirt similar to Hickok45 during the cooler months.

I did about the same. I have found that the relaxed fit jeans work better with IWB holsters.

I got a better belt and now I always wear a belt with my pants. That's my main change. I never wore painted-on jeans or shirts so I didn't really have to change my wardrobe much.

i didn't have to change at all, i actually lost a few lbs before my license came in so my jeans automatically had room for IWB and I actually had to go smaller on my shirt size down from XLto L. The only thing is i quit wearing some of my shirts that are cut a little short at the bottom to reduce the accidental flash when i get up. I do want to try and get some different clips for my holster though on my sigp938 for when I have to tuck in my shirt because the normal clips stick out like a sore thumb with a tucked in shirt. Don't the J style clips only grip from the bottom of the belt to make it less visual?
