Find me a left hander's 1911!

Post by TrackinPat »

I want a 1911 that I can swap the safety and magazine release on for my superior left handed genetics. "rlol" I know they are out there but none come to mind at the moment and I need something to drool over here at work.

Just fork over the $5,750 and after a short wait it will be yours.

Don't give up yet! You can probably find a used Randall Left-handed 1911 for a few grand.

I'm a leftie. I clicked over to look at that ... thing...

There is something very, very wrong about that gun. It's like Kirk and Spock grew mustaches. It's as though Vader was the one dangling in Cloud Spire City, not Luke. It's as though Malcolm Reynolds switched to a plastic windbreaker. It's as if Iron Man and Captain America actually liked each other. It's as though Hal let Dave come home.

I'll stick to slapping ambidextrous safeties on my guns, and using the other controls backwards. My muscle memory's already set up for that. "Proper" controls would just screw me up. :biggrinjester:

Oh my. This southpaw must have that Southpaw! I am going to start taking donations immediately.

The line for donors starts here:

Is it just me or are there a lot of pictures of the wrong side of the firearm? The "non-control" side is pretty uninteresting. Two and a partial out of eight pictures show the new controls. That is nit picking, I admit, but it's like the photographer has a script for shooting pistols and didn't change their script for a LH pistol.

How about a set of wood target grips for a leftie 1911?
Not sure how I ended up with those!

My biggest quibble is that it apparently takes reversed magazines as well; ie, none of my current 1911 mags would work. :banghead:

Well, that and the price.

In all seriousness, having gotten accustomed to operating right-handed magazine releases and slide stops with my index finger, "proper" controls for my handedness would just feel... awkward.

I also wanted a true lefty but once I realized my thumb was too short to make quick mag changes and I'm quicker with my finger (which also is off the trigger when making a change.... plus I can reach the slide stop with my trigger finger and can't with a thumb. All reasons I now would never buy a true lefty... even if I had an extra 6 grand lying around!

Hadn't even thought of mags...

Didn't the Nuns teach you old timers that being a lefty was a sin?
The FIL got smacked back in the day every time he picked up something with his left hand. Till the day he died he could not walk by a Nun without mumbling something under his breath.
He loved his WWII military issued 1911 - not sure what he would think about that thing.
BTW, was lucky enough to get his 1911 after he passed - complete with the holster, several mags, and some of the ammo he was issued during in the 40s.
Life is tough, but it's tougher when you're stupid.

I have my dad's issued 1911 — a 1943 Ithaca. Great gun, but it ejects out the "wrong" side.
