Trucker chases down a vandal, then shoots him in the rear...

Post by ATDM »

Stuff like this gives us all a bad name. Why would he shoot the guy AFTER the act of vandalism? Detaining? Maybe. But shooting?...

How do you break a finger shooting a gun?

"Police said there were multiple 18-wheelers with flat tires outside of that apartment complex.

Despite the apparent vandalism, deputies said the district attorney's office has no plans to press charges against the vandal."

He figures being shot in the butt enough punishment?

Think about it this way.

Sleeping in his on the road home. After dark. Protecting his property. If he had fired but not chased he may well have gotten no billed.

When I took my chl class the instructor taught that you could pretty much shoot anybody for anything including a crime like this in TX as long as it was at night. I disagreed and always worried that his bad advice could put somebody into a position like this. There seem to be a lot of CHL shootings in Harris County that don't get prosecuted so in general from the outside they don't seem anti chl or self defense. It will be interesting to read the investigation when they are done to find out what happened and why the guy fired his weapon. The arrest affidavit should pop up in a day or two as well with the PC for the arrest. It will be interesting to see if the grand jury will indict after they see all the facts. Facts that we won't see until they do their thing.

Slashing truck tires is not just simple property. That is these guy's livelihood. You might as well say they destroyed your work laptop as an office comparrison. If more petty vandals and thieves knew they risked being shot, maybe they wouldn't do it. They set a very low value on their own lives when they seek to committ these acts.

The laws that forbid the carrying of arms... disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes.
