Headed over to Elm Fork in a bit......

Post by The Annoyed Man »

I'll be on the 100 yard line, getting my new ACOG zeroed. If you're there, look for the fat white-haired guy with the KFC whiskers. If you see me, come on by and say hi.

I'm up in Mansfield this weekend. Darn it! I almost posted to see if any one wanted to meet for a shoot at Elm Fork or Alpine. :banghead: Just goes to show you should go with your gut! Have fun!

PS: as I was getting out the shower, The Annoyed Woman asked me if she could go along. She figures she out to start getting familiar with the AR I built her which she hasn't fired in more than a year. :hurry:

I married above my station in life. . . . however, it meant departure delayed until she's ready, so we'll be leaving the house here in Grapevine in about 15 minutes or so.

That was the first gene Sir Francis Crick identified if the female DNA.

We had a great time. At first, she was frustrated by a couple of things: she is a cross-eye dominant right hander; and she was afraid that recoil would hurt her shoulder, where she had a rotator cuff repair back at the end of June. What got her over the eye dominance hump was when she realized that she can have both eyes open with an EOTech and it will work just fine. Once she got the sighting down and fired a couple of rounds, she realized that recoil wasn't going to hurt her.

I had a stumblebumble. I got the ACOG near zeroed and was making some minor adjustments when I realized that I was starting to chase the zero. When I reached up to uncap the elevation turret, I realized that the whole sight had shot loose and came completely off the rail when I grabbed the knob. So I had to start over again, remount and tighten down the scope mount, boresight the scope, get it on paper, and re-zero it again. This time, I got what I wanted. This particular carbine can shoot 2 to 2.5 MOA at 100 yards using 55 grain softpoints, and that's about what I got with the ACOG. I absolutely love the reticle (TA31F Red Chevron). The Trijicon glass is amazingly clear. It is as good or better than my $1,500 5-20x50HDSS SWFA scope. I also learned that it works best for me if I shoot both eyes open. . . . .which as it turns out, is how it was designed to be used. (Bindon Aiming Concept.)
