AR 15 magnification question

Post by WyattP »

Quick question for anyone who is familiar with AR 15 optics. I have a Colt AR15 .223 and currently have an EOTech Holographic sight on it. After taking it numerous times out hunting with me, it is noticeably difficult to reliably shoot lets say a coyote at 150 yards every time. What is my best option to add some magnification? I went to the gun shop the other day and saw the pop up 3x magnifier EOTech makes that would go in front of the holographic sight and use it as the crosshairs. Only problem is, its $550. Is there a cheaper option? Or is there something i haven't thought of that could solve my problem. I would like to keep the Eotech on there cause I also have the Nightvision in front attachment that i purchased during the initial sale. Anyways... You guys got any ideas?
Thanks,
Wyatt

Perhaps you're looking for something like this:

That actually looks quite appealing! Have you heard anything about this sight?

I just looked and found the exact same one but with a 5x magnifier and its basically the same price. I might write it of as a Christmas present to my dad, but ill be the one receiving most of the enjoyment.

I don't have any experience with it, but on ARF they're was a thread about less $$$ magnifiers, and this one came up several times as decent optics for the job. Just remember, its a magnifier, not a 'scope', and relies on the quality of the hologram. Go to Academy and see what the EOtech does, to make sure this is what you're wanting.

I looked at the SightMark magnifier last year. if I recall, it had no focus, and it was blurry for me. No Dice.

Primary Arms has a 1-6 for $250 or go with the Burris TAC30/MTAC

I would look into a separate scope with a good Q/D mount. These can be had around $150-200, but you can simply put on the scope of your choosing for precision, and keep the rifle light and handy with the EOTech when desired.

This is what I have on one of my ARs. Link 1-4 magnification, illuminated reticle, sharp, clear optics fair price. :tiphat:

I have one of Primary Arms' magnifiers and love it. Heck of a lot cheaper than a name brand...

mueller 1-4x24 speed shot scope - It's an illuminated red dot scope. Not a red dot sight, but an actual scope.

The red dot is easily seen even in daylight and has 11 power settings. With a mount, it's cost in the neighborhood of $275.00 and would have cost less if I'd bought it out of state.

A friend has an Eotech red dot sight mounted on his AR and prefers my much less expensive scope. He really likes the magnification and how easy it is to see the red dot.
