Taurus ... gripe
In July, I bought a new PT1911.
Took it to the range and had constant issues with feeding using the stock magazine.
the issue was that the spring wouldn't push up the rounds so the weapon always thought it was empty after 1 shot, or it partially loaded out of the mag.
So i bought an aftermarket magazine (I needed more mags anyway!) and had no issues with the aftermarket.
I called Taurus, they said, no problem, send us the magazine, we will test it, fix or replace it.
I sent it, they received it July 29.
I realized recently that I have not received the replacement magazine.
So I called them today, they acknowledge receipt on July 29, but said that they have not had any extra magazines, and are waiting on brazil to send them
they only have the mags that come with the new PT1911's and will not separate the mag from the weapon.
I told them I can go to Academy and buy them for $30, why cant them get a magazine and send it to me, or reimburse me if I buy one?
they said they cant reimburse nor buy one for me.
They cannot tell me when they will get me a new magazine, and only say "Sorry, you have to wait"
So I complain that how can you sell me a gun and tell me I cannot shoot it? - which is essentially what they are saying.
I equate it to buying a car, having the engine go out and the mfgr not replacing the engine for (now) over 4 months.
Frustrating!
I have asked to speak to a supervisor, they said one will call me in 24-48 hours.
Again, frustrating!
I have always heard how good the customer service is with Taurus, and I will say, they do answer their phones, but if they repair guns in the same time frame they replace magazines, i would suggest NO ONE buys a Taurus again!
I know i will never buy another Taurus!

A few years ago I bought my first Samsung TV. In the past I only bought Sony's, but this TV had good reviews so I thought I'd give it a try. Bad idea.
After a couple years of intermittent problems, it finally gave up the ghost. When I was researching new TVs I read on-line that the Samsung's have had issues that the company knew about but didn't acknowledge or issue a recall.
When I bought my new Sony, the salesman, of course, tried to sell me the extended warranty. I told him I didn't need it - that was the reason I was buying a Sony.

I bought a new Sony back in 1978 and it lasted longer than I wanted it to. I wanted a bigger tv but I couldn't throw the Sony away.

Taurus management take note: If the person answering the phone is only allowed to collect information, this is not good customer service. The person talking to the customer must have the authority to make certain decisions and the power to resolve the customer's concern without getting permission from their boss.Teamless wrote:Frustrating! You know, times like this I think we should go with all the material records and go to small claims court. They must have some assets in Texas that you can hit. You know they will not fight you in court. You may or may not get your magazine but you will get satisfaction and possibly $$ and if more of us did the same the service would improve. Otherwise we just gripe among each other.

Small claims court is not an option for "hitting assets". This forum has a very large audience and many people make purchasing decisions based on member feedback. Good reviews result in increased business for some companies and bad reviews result in lower sales and revenues. I have had excellent service from Taurus. I was detail stripping my 2" Model 85 and lost the keeper for the mainspring. I called Taurus told them what happened and they sent me the whole mainspring, strut, and keeper at no charge even though the loss was my fault.

Not sure why small claims court would not be an option. True, you may not collect but it is still an option. For most companies the hastle factor of small claims court makes them pay up. I had a similar problem with Taurus back in the 1990s.
I was told the part would be unavailable for 16 months!
Needless to say I have never bought another Taurus and have recommended that others do the same.

The weakest link in any 1911 is the magazine. The OP already has stated he bought an aftermarket magazine and the gun functions. If it were my gun I would have tossed the factory magazine and bought some Tripp, McCormick, or Wilson magazines and tiptoed through the Tulips.rotor wrote:How about the cost of a non-functioning PT1911? I am not suggesting that Taurus is not responsible for providing non-functional magazines with their firearms, but I would wager that Taurus does not make the magazines that they supply with their guns. They all seem to be supplied with junk. When Teamless gets his replacement magazine I doubt it will be much better than the one he sent in.
I hope that's not the case.

too late to collect on a bet, but I'd have bet that the mag spring was in backwards .... seen it more than once on new guns
