Hotel Rooms - Concealed or Not Concealed?
I'm planning on going to Destin, FL for a summer vacation this year in June with a group of friends. I'm wonder if I have to wear my handgun concealed inside my hotel room? Especially when room service comes in and out all the time, I really don't like wearing my IWB holster unless I go out in public. When I am at home or at work I usually wear my OWB holster.
Does my hotel room is consider to be my territory since I rent it out?
or
Do I have it to conceal it inside my hotel room?
I tried searching the forum already for this specific topic, but found nothing...

Isn't Florida law going to be the deciding factor here.
Not whether he is in control of who comes & goes.

Carry 24-7 or guess right.

You are correct sir. I didn't read it well enough to notice he was talking about FL.longtooth wrote:Isn't Florida law going to be the deciding factor here.

See my first answerNguyenVanDon wrote:Well, the group haven't decided yet. We are still debating about staying in the state and go to Corpus Christi or Destin, FL.
How about in Texas? Is it allowed inside hotel rooms?

I could not agree more. I beleive that you would end up bringing only negative attention to yourself from the hotel staff.txinvestigator wrote:I believe you can legally carry any way you desire in your room. However, I don't think it is a good idea when staff is there.

Re: Hotel Rooms - Concealed or Not Concealed?
A hotel room is a leasehold. While you are there, you "own" a leashold interest in it, subject to the "terms" of the lease - in this case, the hotel rules and policies.NguyenVanDon wrote:I'm planning on going to Destin, FL for a summer vacation this year in June with a group of friends. As far as the state of FL is concerned, it is your residence. You can do anything that's legal there. Clothing, for instance, is optional. You can certainly possess any legal firearm there. And you can carry it openly or concealed - your choice - whether staff is present or not.
If the hotel staff doesn't like it, the most they can do is throw you out. You will NOT be prosecuted.
If you have a TX permit, you can carry it OUTSIDE of the room, subject to whatever the FL CHL law provides for.
Note: The above isn't legal advice. Just the general knowledge of a layman who sometimes travels to FL and who has carried there under both FL and TX CHL's, and who has taken the trouble to ask the FL state police for some guidance in this area (though not specifically as to carrying in a hotel room).

I think it would be a bad idea to open carry while hotel staff are present. Keep it hidden, but within reach. If you prefer OWB, just throw a shirt over it while accepting room service. It takes only a few seconds to throw a shirt, jacket, or robe on while heading for the door.
