1,103 Dead

Post by anygunanywhere »

Driving to work this morning the highway signs were flashing "1,103 Deaths so far this year in Texas."

It is May and 1,103 people have died on Texas highways. The causes are many. Men, women, children have died. Many different races. Rich, poor, middle class. I do not know how many have been injured.

Where is the cry to ban cars, limit driving?

Despite the numbers, let a person do a mozambique drill on a hooded thug and immediately the cry erupts to do something about the "gun violence".

What about the driving violence? Texting violence? DUI violence? Road rage violence? Not wearing seat belt violence? Children not buckled up in safety seat violence?

The illogic of the war on guns is ridiculous when we have such carnage occurring every day.

That is funny. I noticed the sign on the way home last night. I was wondering who updates the sign, and when it will change to 1,104 and who that person will be that died.

They also got a lot less media attention than the people who died in that Malaysian airline crash.

Statistically speaking, driving to work is the most dangerous thing most of us do everyday. Just observing some of the other drivers around us, especially in this area, and you see how true that is. If Bloomie were really serious about wanting to save lives, especially the lives of our younger generations, he ought to devote all of the time and money he's sunk towards better driving education. This country is in need of some serious defensive driving education and training.

I'm at the point where unless I've got directions running on my phone, I don't even take it out of my pocket. I'm just flabbergasted at the people I see driving with their heads buried in their phones. There was one young lady on 59 yesterday afternoon who was in a center lane, going about 20 MPH under the flow of traffic because she was too busy texting. What is it going to take to convince people distracted driving is a really bad idea?
