New job bad time? (Rant Heavy)

Post by 1s1k52 »

-complaining on-

I have been wanting to be a police officer my whole life. long story short I will be starting FINALLY with Dallas PD on June 18th :anamatedbanana for me! I know peoples perception of police officers are getting worse. I hope to turn that around with at least some people.

So I am taking a pay cut to do this. In the mean time my car with not even 160k miles on it may need a new transmission, needs new head-gasket and distributor, my phone bit the dust, and to top it all off I am getting sick. Infected wheezing feeling, sore throat, exhaustion, etc.

I had a job using a work vehicle, never used my car, never had issues with it, had a way to arrange my schedule to not use daycare/preschools etc.

With this change my wife got her job back after me being the only income for the last 4 years while she finishes her nursing degree. She encouraged me to apply for places last year due to only having two semesters left THIS year. Having heard it could take time and no guarantee I wouldn't have to apply several places, I made a solid run at Dallas PD in November. Got the letter of acceptance last week.

Its going to be a long 14 months at this rate lol

Policeman? Oh my! Well, I guess police work has to be safer than hanging out in the philosophy department.

The two DPD officers I've known did nothing but complain about their insurance. One has already retired and the other is in 2-3 years. It seems the city doesn't think very much of their officers or their families and they are often in court over this.

FYI, Dallas PD has a no pursuit policy unless it's an active felony. This is what we were told then Dallas came to out academy trying to recuit.

Congrats! I'm convinced there never is an ideal time to change jobs but if you want it, you make the change when it's offered. I took a new job last year in December and left the company I had spent 7 years with. This was while my wife was almost 9 months pregnant with some serious health complications. The timing frankly stunk but I knew that the stress in the short term would pay off and it already has begun to.

You both will make it through this supporting each other. Best wishes to you and I've told a few others this but I'm jealous of you for having the chance to pursue it. Do well.
