Need to replace a g19 with new g19 or g26
I am going to sell back the glock19 I bought from a friend a few years ago.
That being said I had initially bought it thinking I would use it for home defense and also as a daily carry. In the end though I never carried it much (tried all kinds of holsters). It was just too big and with a 2 year old and a 4 month old I'm always bending over twisting around and pretty much doing everything that would expose a large gun like that.
So for the last year I've been borrowing a S&W air weight from friend. I love carrying that. It conceals easily and stays concealed but in the end it is a loan and I'd hate for something to happen to it. I'd really like to give it back if I found something similar I could carry.
So now that I'm selling the glock I have a choice since I'll have enough money to buy a new gun. Buy another glock 19, buy a glock 26 (which was my so so so close second choice when I first bought the 19), or buy something else entirely.
I really like the look of the glock 26, it seems to be smaller than the 19 so it would conceal a little better. But would it really replace the airweight?

I don't understand why you would consider another 19. It appears to me that you really don't like it.
You obviously like the airweight. Why not try to find one?

I would buy another G19 because they have not changed sizes.
The G26 grip is much smaller than the G19. The G19's barrel is about 4" long and the G26's barrel is about 3 1/2" long.
The larger trade off is the grip. Make sure you handle a G26 as much as possible before you buy it if you go that route. I can only get two fingers on the grip of the G26.
Let us know what you decide.

I LOVE the g19 at the range. I really don't like carrying it.healthinsp wrote:I don't understand why you would consider another 19. It appears to me that you really don't like it.

Ummm doesn't that negate the real reason for the G 26? Grip size more so than barrel length is what makes a gun hard to conceal. I think finding a way to conceal a G19 will be the best route second best a lightweight snubby like an S&W Airweight, an LCP, Taurus 85 Ultra Lite, or a Taurus 85jastallings wrote:Glock 26 w/grip ext and 15 rnd mag!
Ply. A G19 is literally the perfect carry gun, smaller than a Service Pistol, adequate power, high round count and, easy to shoot.

It sounds like a good choice for a home defense gun for you but it's not going to replace the airweight for carry. A 26 probably won't either depending how much you hated carrying a 19.knotquiteawake wrote:I LOVE the g19 at the range. Good idea. I'm not married to the glock brand but I do feel a strong attachment for one of the most reliable gun makers ever.

And also that opens a whole new can of worms because I know next to nothing about any of those and so now I'm in for some heavy research. I really wish glock had come out with a 9mm single stack!AndyC wrote:You could look into something along the lines of slim pistols such as the S&W Shield, Beretta Nano, Springfield Armory XDS, Walther PPS, etc.

The Shield is very nice. It is the only single stack 9mm I have shot and own. I know the trigger is better in the Shield than the older M&P's.knotquiteawake wrote:And also that opens a whole new can of worms because I know next to nothing about any of those and so now I'm in for some heavy research. I have both the 19 and the 26. I carry the 26 exclusively. I had a .45 XDS that I carried prior to the recall. Sold it and went back to the 26.
The short grip on the 26 doesn't bother me at all. In fact, I've adapted Hancock45's method of not using my pinky finger regardless of the size of the weapon. This has worked well for me.

Depending on how handy you are with a hacksaw or bandsaw and a dremel, you can cut down the grip of the G19 to the size of a G26. I've not done it yet personally, but I've seen a few that were done and it doesn't affect performace or stability of the gun at all if done right. But you have to be careful as you only get one shot.
You retain the larger slide and sight radius, in addition to the rail for attachments which you normally lose on a subcompact, with the more concealable grip. Many will probably boohoo the thought of doing so, but there are a lot of Glock owners who have done it and are happy.
I'll be cutting a G22 down to 23 size later this year. There are tutorials out there as well as gunsmiths who will do it.

I have a friend who sent his G22 to Cold Bore Customs about three years ago and this has been his EDC every since.spongeworthy wrote:

Cold Bore Customs is here in Texas. He was a police officer and worked nights, but he had a fairly quick return time.
