ar15 22 conversion kit

I'm looking at getting one for my AR's so kids can shoot them easier and plus being cheaper. Which models are good and give the best results, or is the something that is really better to build a different AR for? I have never tried one or know anyone that has and just want to make sure no real issues with them or whats best to use.

If you're looking to spend around $300, I would just buy a S&W M&P 15-22. They eat any type of 22 (Bulk/match). I had mine for about 2 years now, it has held up great. Need extra mags? (It comes with 2) They sell them for about $20 everywhere online. You can even convert the 10RD magazine to 25RD, too.

I had one and the function (ccmg ? ) was great and fun to shoot, back when .22 lr was plentiful.
The problem was the point of impact was different on the .22 vs the .223 so my red dut was either useless or needed to be adjusted each time and then readjusted. A dedicated .22 lr model would be better.

From a cost perspective, I've found it makes more sense to simply buy the pistol or rifle in the caliber you want to shoot rather than trying to buy a conversion kit to that caliber.

Plus, you an additional gun.

cheapest i found was budsgun http://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/prod ... s_id/61690" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; for $400 but still out of my price range right now -- seen the cmmg conversion on (hate to say their name) CTD for like 140 -- would like a dedicated ar in 22 but its not like it will get used that much but kids at the range

If you decide on the conversion kit keep it well lubed. It does not like to be dry.

I waffled back & forth between a conversion or a dedicated upper for a long time. Then I decided to just get a 10/22 Takedown after I handled one at GT Distributors.

I like it so much I have put money into mods so it is just like I want it. Then I went back to GTs and bought the 50th anniversary model for the grandkids to shoot.

Let us know what you think after you take it to the range. This sounds like something I'd be interested in. Gives me a .22 if I also get a new polymer lower that can also be a 'spare' lower for the .223/5.56 rifles.

I installed a bolt buffer, Volquartsen trigger, and a Williams Ace In the Hole Sight Set so I have a nice peep sight.

The rail allowed me to set up a [url=chrome-extension://oemmndcbldboiebfnladdacbdfmadadm/http://www.redfield.com/_media/download ... 2_7x34.pdf]Redfield® BattleZone™ tAC.22[/url] scope, using a Weaver Tactical Thumb-Nut SPR 1-Piece Scope Mount. This allows me to remove the scope & store everything in the Ruger bag.

Oh, I also installed a front sling stud so I can attach a bipod, if I wish.

Wow, talk about fast service and shipping. Ordered it yesterday evening and it arrived today. I know they are in Texas but dang that's still fast. First issue I noticed is they will not work with polymer hammer. Tried it on a polymer lower from a friend to check it out and the hammers are too wide. Was thinking on slightly sanding the sides of the hammer but after looking and checking it out real good it seems like would take a few millimeters to get it to clear so decided against it. So if decide to use polymer lower will have to change out to a steel hammer. Hopefully might get out to the range tomorrow or Monday to test it out.
