DWI checkpoint protester Kory Watkins hit by drunk Driver.

Post by G.A. Heath »

The article has nothing to do with Open Carry, other than they point out Watkins is president of OCTC but they make that point very clear. Kory Watkins was on his way home from protesting a DWI checkpoint as part of the "Cop Block"/"Cop Watch" movement when he was rear ended by an intoxicated driver travelling around 100mph. Watkins was cited for no drivers license, which He claims he doesn't ask permission to drive a car he paid for on a road that he paid for. The article has more, but also edits out Watkins foul language. The article can be found at: http://bearingarms.com/open-carry-leade ... heckpoint/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

The fact that this man is considered a leader in the Open Carry movement is a shame because he is a lawless individual who disregards laws he does not agree with.

Edit: Fixed the link.

I would be willing to bet that the REAL reason Watkins doesn't have a license isn't that he never had one, but that he had his revoked at some point and decided that he no longer needed to be law-abiding if he didn't like the law. He's actually an anarchist.....as are a lot of these folks.

Well, it does illustrate what a waste of resources the checkpoints are. Now, if they set them up close to the bars, they might do some good, but as it is, they're 95% grandstanding.

DWI checkpoints are legal in Texas? News to me....

If Arlington PD wants Kory Watkins to go away I would suggest they start ignoring him instead of feeding into his antics.

Just because something has been declared unconstitutional does not mean it does not happen. Unconstitutional and illegal are two different terms. I wish unconstitutional acts all carried criminal penalties.

Sounds like an individual that should be living in CA or NJ or anywhere except in Texas. Not a Texas quality individual.

Of note, the provided link states, that the check point is illegal, not JUST unconstitutional "Illegal under Texas' interpretation of federal Constitution"
And "Texas Court of Criminal Appeals ruled in a case from 1991 that DWI sobriety checkpoints violated a Texan's Fourth Amendment rights and were thus unconstitutional" is another tidbit I found so????

And the court decision in 1994 I "think" that makes DUI check points illegal in Texas..

Kory David Watkins had a TX driver's license issued in 2001 for a Keller address.

He also has a TX ID with a Mansfield address issued in 2007.

Wouldn't that TDL issued in 2001 have expired in 2006, and that ID issued in 2007 have expired in 2012? That's kind of my point....not that he never had any license/ID, but that at some point either the license was revoked, or he decided he didn't need it in order to exercise his "right to drive".

It is my observation that some of these folks are resistant to things like licensing, not because they are libertarian, but because they are anarchists. It is also my general observation that anarchism as a movement is growing today, and is as active as it has ever been in this country.

I once read an article at a libertarian website which explained that they wern't anti-government because without a government you have anarchy, creating a power vacuum which is then filled by those who can apply the most force. Just as they oppose totalitarianism, they oppose anarchy. I feel the same way about firearms law. It should exist, but be simple and streamlined. Anarchy in the firearms realm would equal increased calls for the most draconian laws. This is why I don't oppose carry licensing, as long as it is shall issue, and serves specifically to weed out miscreants.

All laws should meet the requirement of short and sweet. It is rediculas to have laws that are 1500 pages. All laws should be no more difficult to read or understand than the United States Constitution, and definitely not of more length.

Even better would be to offer free breathalyzer checks at a bar so people can check themselves before attempting to drive. Act to prevent the crime/risk before it happens.

Is the article trying to imply that the DUI checkpoints would have prevented the other driver from hitting him or stopped him before that?
