Remington to Replace ALL Model 700 Triggers

Post by Keith B »

In a released statement, Remington insisted they were not recalling the rifle, but were going to replace the trigger for anyone who wants it replaced.

It looks like Remington has finally acknowledged the 800lb gorilla in the room and agreed to replace every Remington 700 trigger ever made due to a recent settlement from a lawsuit.

The company is expected to issue a statement shortly which will likely set off one of the largest recalls in gun industry history.

The last time the "Remington trigger" story broke..... maybe a year ago?..... I put a Timney trigger in mine, set it for a 2-1/4 lb letoff, and never looked back. The rifle is now perfect as is.....

....except for a couple of minor details... I have to get the barrel threaded to accept a suppressor....

About darn time.

Remington has lost my business forever, but I'm happy to see them finally address this serious issue.

I really like the trigger on my 700 ADL but I suppose I should send it in. They've dragged their feet on this issue long enough.

I shoot a Remington 700 in .270, my wife shoots a Remington 700 in 25-06. She also has a model 7 in .223. I've never had a problem with my .270 but she had a round go off as she bolted a round in the chamber as we were in a stand hunting. Fortunately she knows safety and the round went into some brush. I replaced that trigger with a Timney as soon as we got home. I will go ahead and replace the one in the model 7 as well. I also have a Browning X-Bolt in .270. I like all my rifles and want lose confidence in my Remington's.

I sent my 30-06 to Remington last Spring for this issue free of charge shipping both ways. They fixed it and sent it back. It took about 6 weeks. I didn't have any problems but with the rifle but read about the potential problem and contacted them. They were nice and told me exactly what I needed to do and what they would do. I harvested two deer so for this year with it.

Apparently, a liberal media outlet has erroneously published that Remington is recalling all Model 700 riles. This is not the case, as can be seen on the Remington website.

From this is sounds like it is going to be expanded once a settlement is signed off by a judge.
“Under a nationwide settlement filed Friday in a federal court in Missouri, the company is agreeing to replace the triggers in about 7.85 million rifles.” The agreement, which must be approved by a federal judge, follows the Remington recall of tens of thousands of 700’s equipped with X-Mark Pro triggers. http://www.thetruthaboutguns.com/2014/1 ... 00-rifles/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I don't think I'm going to send my rifle in. I don't trust any brand affiliated with Freedom Group. Everything they touch turns into well you get the idea. I can't trust the quality and workmanship of a replacement trigger that they make. If I replace mine it is going to be with an aftermarket trigger.

One of the "news" programs the other night featured multiple pictures of a lever gun. They didn't stop on it long enough, but I was pretty sure it was a Winchester.

I got mine back in the early 70s.....according to the Remington website it's not part of the recall.
