Oklahoma Courts and High School Football

Post by Charles L. Cotton »

This is absurd. A suit was filed by a high school as a result of a bad call by a referee during a football playoff game. The judge should have thrown the case out.

Yeah, bad calls suck, but it's football. Apparently the OK supreme court has previously gotten involved in at least one high school football game. Perhaps it's going to regret that decision.

Congress got involved in major league baseball so why not?

I predict riots if the judge does not rule in favor of the predominately minority team. :banghead:

Pearland HS just lost out in state playoffs and a number of bad calls were made along the way but like Charles said thats football. We love high school football because there is sport left in it for now anyways.

Wow, and I thought we took football too serious in the western most part of Texas...

For the record, the crew did kick the call. They took a TD off the scoreboard and should have counted it and penalized after the TD. Refs on every TV game every week make mistakes. It is the human element of the game. The refs are the 3rd team on the field and no team ever plays a perfect game.

Now...what I think we should be discussing is the real root of the problem. This issue is a TEAM issue. These coaches are a part of the team and they clearly violated the coaching box rule. If they would have kept their tail ends off the field, the refs wouldn't have had a call to blow. They should not get a do-over...and they should be responsible for their actions and be forced to go own up to those boys and say...there are TWO wrongs here and OUR wrong started the ball rolling. This loss is OUR fault...not the officials. If we had followed the rules, they wouldn't have screwed up the enforcement! (Take some personal responsibility...as it was stated in a recent viral video.)

Somehow, in the days we live in....where referee scapegoating is en vogue...I seriously doubt that this conversation will never happen. And sadly, another generation will walk away from the game thinking that someone else is the root of their problems...victim mentality. I'd love for the ADULTS in the room to please be intellectually honest with themselves, the media, and the players instead of playing the race card.

Judge rules that there will be no replay! Common sense finally rules today, but probably only for a day. :)

No, unfortunately common sense left the state of Oklahoma when they decided to file, then hear the case.

Not that I don't agree that it's a nutty idea but,...

The flip side of the argument is that the school can stand to lose a not insignificant amount of revenue from not being able to host post season games at their venue...
