With new lower oil prices comes thoughts of a new Carbon Taxes on gas.

To me a much simpler tax would simply be, to put a tax on imported oil, an import tariff. It would raise money for the federal government, who apparently cannot live within their means, and boost US production of oil, which would add and preserve jobs of US taxpayers and citizens. (not that the government cares about its taxpayers or citizens) It would help our balance of trade, and put less money in the hands of our friends in the Middle East, Russia and Venezuela. (I understand they have never liked this idea, that is why it has never happened before)

I'm never a fan of raising taxes, but I would support this one.

Problem with tariffs is that nobody wins.

:iagree: Not affected suppliers could raise their prices to just below the price of tariff-ed oil, because what competition is their. It guarantees how much higher our prices could go, the higher the tariff is.

It is simply an additional tax on American citizens paid to the United States government. So what if the oil is imported or not, it is still people living here who pay the tax. It isn't as if it would "punish" anyone outside the country.
