Will Fox News Be Back On Dish?

Post by Abraham »

I'm a fan of many Fox news shows, but I have a Dish satellite subscription and suddenly/currently they're not broadcasting Fox.

I'm guessing many on the forum are Fox news fans.

What are you going to do?

Wait and see what happens or change to Direct TV (assuming they carry FNC) or what...?

Thanks!

Not long ago Dish dropped TCM for about a week. Other channels have been dropped in the past and soon returned. I think it's just a negotiating tactic. Call or send a message letting Dish know you are upset about losing Fox.

This is tricky and it's hard to answer unless you're one of those in the direct negotiations. DISH is known for being cheap in negotiating rebroadcasting rights with networks, whether cable or broadcast. With the growth of FNC, they are demanding an increase for their programming, and rightly so. DISH runs on extremely thin margins and sometimes has a problem playing with the big boys such as DirecTV, TWC, Comcast, etc.

The first thing I would do is call DISH and complain. The more calls they get, the more they are pressured to pick it back up. There are instances when they are only off for a few days, and others when it's months or longer. I'm guessing there is also a petition on the internet somewhere.

DirecTV is an excellent company and has great customer service. It might be a bit more expensive, but well worth it over DISH.

Did you ask for a drop in you subscription fee? I did and really complained. They did this with AMC, CNN and now Fox and they don't spontaneously offer a reduction in what they charge you. And there is a clue here, there is more than one level of complaining and you can escalate you complaint to a higher level and get a better discount. And even with the discounted fee I will shortly be switching to direct tv as I am tired of these games that dish plays. Also if you do watch Fox, direct lets you watch it on your Ipad, dish does not. Sams club has a very nice deal now on switching to direct tv.

I've had both Dish and Direct... I have a good friend who has Direct today... I would never go back to Direct.
Dish is much easier for me to navigate... much more user friendly, IMO.

Today I have cable (Verizon FIOS). Better than satellite TV [abbreviated profanity deleted] shizzle. No outages when you need it most, as the severe storm is passing nearby.
So... no.... don't switch to Direct.

Call Dish and give them heck. Fox will be back shortly.

Oh yeah? Well I will never go back to Dish. Directv all the way!.

They both beat Comcast hands down.

Directv still has Fox News. On right now.

I just talked with customer service at Dish and spoke with a very pleasant customer service lady.

She surprised me by saying that she and her husband are big fans of FNC as well, are also disappointed it's no longer being broadcast and have high hopes it will soon be back on the air.

I told her I'd wait as much as a month, but if FNC wasn't back on the air by then, I'd be dropping my subscription and going where I could watch FNC.

She said she understood and would pass on my dissatisfaction up the chain...

Perhaps if enough of us let them know what we'll do if FNC isn't returned, they'll be losing a lot of business.

Of course during this time dish is not paying fox and still charging you. This is like buying a gallon of gas and getting 0.9 gallon. You deserve and should demand a discount. Your choice. If they want to keep me as a customer I want my bill reduced. Their employees are very skilled at handling these complaints and know exactly how to hand out the discounts. $5 a month for 6 months tier 1, next complainers get bigger discounts, etc.

rotor,

A big thank you for the discount off my bill tip.

I called, spoke to another very nice Dish customer service person and requested a discount for the lack of FNC.

He, quite cheerfully advised they would knock off $5.00 a month off my bill for the next 6 months even if FNC comes back tomorrow.

So, again, thank you very much.

Merry Christmas!

TVGuy,

I forgot to thank you also for suggesting I contact Dish.

Thank you!

During the call to their service reps, I inquired as to the volume of calls regarding the loss of FNC.

The service rep said the calls regarding FNC are a tsunami - exceeding all such type calls for the entire history of their stopping a program broadcast.

I've had Dish 3 different times, Directv 3 different times, and am now with Uverse. Once my contract is up I'll go back to Directv. Then I'll bounce between Uverse and Directv. I'll never go back to Dish. It would be nice if someone would come out with a decent rate and not jack it up after the first year so I didn't have to play this back and forth game.

I do the exact same thing. 2yrs dish then 2yrs DirecTV, then back again. The only way to keep the promo pricing.
