De-chrome service in DFW?
i recently acquired a Colt M1911 made in 1918. I was chromed at some point, but the plating is about half gone. I would like to have it electrolytically depleted and then blued. Can I get this done locally in Fort Worth or Dallas rather than shipping it out of state?

IIRC, somebody posted about a friend who had started a coating business. I believe it's in Waco. Try looking back a few months in this forum; the topic should be something about phosphate coating AR15 parts. I think...Rex B wrote:i recently acquired a Colt M1911 made in 1918. Re: De-chrome service in DFW?
Have you done an internet search? I would think there atre services available locally. There are three coating involved in chroming a piece of metal, Copper, Nickel and chrome. I have no idea if reversing it involves one step or separate steps for each layer. If no local services are available the internet should provide some source to use/ask questions. I don't have any chromed firearms, but I would like to de Chrome my laptop along with Windows 8. Good Luck!

just curious .... are you sure it's chrome and not nickel plate?
It's not gun control that we need, it's soul control!

I would call any metal plating shop in the area, and ask them what you want. Can't hurt.

Definitely chrome. I did find an Armalloy location in Ft Worth. I'll check with them in the morning.
Did not figure a regular plating shop would touch a firearm. I think I would prefer to find a firearms specialist anyway.
This thing is tight and smooth, I think partly due to the chrome on the working surfaces. There isn't much, but you can see the difference in the surface. I'd like to be able to preserve that where possible.

Armalloy would not do it, now would AAA that they sent me to.
I am going to look into DIY, but I'll probably send it off to get it done.
