Patriot Protection course, Plano - any reviews?

My wife heard about this on the news, and now she is suggesting we sign up for it.

Has anyone taken this course, or another course from this outfit?

The first thing I noticed is that they do not allow you to bring your personal weapon into their facility. Then I started looking at the courses. $99.95 for a CHL? AND you have to buy your ammo from them and use their weapon? No thanks.

I have not been there yet, but have been looking into some courses. They use simulated ammunition - not live rounds - and have classes where you shoot at an attacker or in a home invasion simulations.

Looks like a good learning experience, but it's costly, IIRC.

I have been a few times. It was an eye opener. It is "force on force" training using UTM ammunition, basically a low velocity (350-400 fpm) round that fires a small paint pellet. They issue full size Glocks with the internals changed out so that a normal round will clearly fail to chamber. They are very safety conscious, they issue protective gear and you will step thru a metal detector and also get wanded. You absolutely do not want ANY real weapons in the sceanario training area - for reasons that become readily apparent.

The head trainer, Robbie Allmon, is a former Marine, LEO, and if I have this correct, may have also trained with Triple Canopy. He is very professional, the oepration is well run, and I have been in classes with newbies and folks who claimed to be licensed HG instructors. Everyone seemed to play nice and the learning curve was steep.

If you have never done sceanario training, this is not the only locale, but its convenient and indoors. I had done medical sceanario training, but force on force is yet another level. In the interest of fair and honest disclosure, I "died" about the same number of times as I survived...
