To be honest I just would have never found taking people that are struggling mentally to the firing range as therapy.

Taking people with PTSD to a range is not a problem. Rousch is clearly got other problems besides PTSD.

But what I don't understand is that Kyle and Littlefield were exchanging these texts in Kyle's truck, on the way to the range......not after they got there. Why didn't he just pull off the road and say the outing was cancelled and they would have to reschedule got another time? If I was that worried, and Kyle was probably a better judge of those things than I will ever be, then why didn't he just scrub the mission? I would have. I just don't understand it.

That is what I, too, am struggling with.

The killer waited until the gun Kyle was shooting was out before shooting him in the back. I don't know about Littlefield's gun. It sounds more like he waited so that he could execute them both.

I agree - if my hackles start whipping in the wind, I'm going to seriously look at bailing on that activity, if possible. And, unless he thought there would be more problems by aborting the range trip, and apparently they didn't, since they went ahead and were shooting, at least for a while, then I'm still guessing why they continued on to the range.

While that's true, there's no "mark of Cain", scarlet letter, or ID card that people with a PTSD history have. PTSD comes in many flavors, most folks showing only the occasional flareup or disablement. Only the very severely disabled constantly show the symptoms.

The PTSD sufferer may start out just fine, but some trigger turns him around 180 degrees in a flash.

Just one of the ways PTSD keeps on giving...

If he waited until the victims guns were empty, shot them in the back, stole their truck, and bragged to his sister that he had killed two men and took a 9mm that were issued to SEALS I would suggest that is no PTSD.

I do not work in the mental field, but as a Pastor and a lot of my time is spent in counseling. I also hold a degree in counseling. Not to say much, but I just don't believe this is just PTSD.

It appears to be just an excuse for man to commit murder.

I can see why the defense counsel read that text, but that doesn't go to the issue as to whether the defendant was "legally insane." One can be crazy as a road lizard, but if they know what they were doing was wrong, then they are not "insane" for purposes of avoiding criminal responsibility. By no means am I saying the defendant was insane even in the clinical sense, so please don't misunderstand my comments.

I hope this link is OK to post. It's got a photo of Roush making obscene gestures, and a few "colorful quotes" by some of his fellow Marines, but it's all quoted statements, not just an article full of profanity just to be profane. If the link needs to be removed, I understand.

What I meant by that is that PTSD does not cause a loss of moral center. The text messages betray that both Kyle's and Littlefield's spidey sense was tingling, not because Rousch was hurting emotionally, but because he was nuttier than an outhouse rat. And this goes back a ways. Marines who served with Rousch thought back then that he was nuttier than an outhouse rat.

scrub the mission or at least make up a reason to pull over and recheck the area....
