All the schools are closed which means a day off for me. Took the boys out four wheeling in the mud and snow in our FJ Cruiser. Lots of fun.

I stayed home today, and my church cancelled its Celebrate Recovery meeting tonight - a first in the the 7 years I've been a part of it. I think it is cold and miserable, but I don't know if it is THAT cold and miserable. I recall church services during an Easter snow storm where the show was blowing sideways and piling up in low drifts out in front of the church door. It's not that bad today.

My nephews in Chattanooga are posting videos of cars and trucks sliding on icy roadways and in parking lots.

Icy here in the mid cities (DFW) area.
Walked the dog this morning and the neighborhood streets were a sheet of ice.

Betting heavily that school will be cancelled again Tuesday and probably a delayed start on Wednesday.
Funny how it must seem to outsiders.... Boston can function with 7+ feet of snow, but DFW comes to a standstill under a half inch of sleet.

You can actually drive on packed snow.

You can't really drive on wet ice. The best you can do is sort of "herd" your vehicle down the road and if you're lucky you get through. All it takes is for one dummy to stop in the wrong place, then you have trouble getting started again. :mad5

Yeap. I was just lamenting on how it might look to folks that don't understand that.
Driving on snow is pretty fun, actually. Lots of experience from living in Upstate NY for a few years.
Driving on ice is fairly terrifying. I don't even attempt it, unless absolutely necessary.

Downtown FW- When I made the short commute to work today at 8AM no roads had been treated. The sleet was still a slushy mix so not too hard to get traction in 8000lb 4WD vehicle. ;-) I suspect if everything refreezes the ride home will be that spoken of in the post above mine.

In other news, I saw a guy on a 50cc scooter, driving with one hand (had no gloves on, so had one in his pocket) sliding around downtown. Hope he made it safe to his destination!

I'm not in North Texas but was headed to Longview from Houston this morning for a meeting with a customer. I spoke with him yesterday and we decided it would be OK to go ahead with the meeting today. I was about 45 minutes north of Houston when he called to tell me things were deteriorating in Longview and we should re-schedule.

I thought that was mighty nice of him to think about our safety and give me a call. :thumbs2:

And no business meeting is worth risking life and property. If it's urgent, there's always the telephone or Skype.

Texarkana got a light dusting about noon. The streets were slushy for an hour or so. The weather is still calling for 80% chance of wintery mix tonight. The Low is 27, so that could cause problems. Bridges and overpasses will defiantly ice up if that happens. As for main roads, it depends on how much heat the slush drew out. Traffic has pushed the slush to the sides, but it hasn't melted. If we get any more overnight, it could well stick.

It's pretty nasty in east Texas. All the schools were closed and the roads are really slick. If I didn't have 4wd I would have never made it up the hill on my street.
