Felony assault?
My cousin has a felony assault of a police officer conviction as a teenager. That was 20 years ago and my understanding is that he was awarded differed adjudication. He spent 1 year in county jail and had to complete boot camp. He did all of this and has not had any more problems. Is he permanently ineligible to get a CHL? He has gotten different answers from CHL instructors.

Re: Felony assault?
A felony assault conviction is a permanent disqualification for CHL, even with a deferred adjudication. Crimes against the person is in Title 5 Chapter 22 of the penal code, which includes assault on a public servant (police officer). Any felony Title 5 conviction will prevent someone from obtaining a CHL.
