NW Metroplex Area Gun Shops

Post by bigity »

My wife and I will be in the metroplex area (generally NW, but probably will make a few trips, Lord help me - to Ikea and Sam Moon) this weekend, she has been talking about a handgun for herself at the house while I am out of town, etc.

Are there any stores we should definitely visit in the area? A wide selection is good and good prices are always very nice :)

DFW Shooting Sports @ 105 Bedford Rd. in Bedford has a large selection and good prices.

DFW Gun Range @ 1607 Mockingbird has a good selection but a little high in my eyes.

Bachman Gun and Pawn @ 2926 W. NW Hwy has a good selection, fair prices, but the personnel has been a little rude the last few times I've been in.

Gun Gear to Go--2901 N. Central in Plano. Good selection, nice people but maybe a little high on price but still within fair numbers.

Then there's always the Bass Pro, and Cabela's

I will never darken Bachman's door again.

I was there with a buddy of mine about 6 years ago when my buddy, an LEO, received a must take phone call on his cell phone. Every employee in the gun shop immediately jumped on him telling him no cell phones. My buddy tried to walk in to the connected customerless pawn shop next door. The pawn shop employee told him in a very rude manner, "No cell phones here either. If you don't like it, leave". No explanation was given, there were no customers there to offend, he was not taking pictures of the shop or the inventory, just taking a priority call. We walked outside so he could take his call, and did not walk back in.

Between the two of us we had about 1800 dollars cash we were going to spend in that shop. We spent it somewhere else.

I'm in the camp of those who detest listening to people who insist on speaking on cell phones while in the presence of others.

Take it outside.

Hard to beat the selection at Cabela's

if you are looking to shoot some unfamiliar guns, Shoot Smart is a few miles south of Cabelas at I-35W at Golden Triangle and they have a decent selection of guns for rent and also sell guns (new and used). http://www.shootsmartusa.com/AL_Manuf.pdf" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; (Link opens PDF)

Thanks for all the tips all :)

The Shoot Smart sounds interesting just for the fact we could potentially test fire a handgun before purchase, even if we didn't buy one there.

Now if I could only trick her into an AR-15....

I someone is being loud our obnoxious while on the phone I can understand, but otherwise I don't think it would be any different than two people having a face to face conversation.

If your getting drug up to Ikea, you can hit Cabela's in Allen. For good measure, there's a Rudy's across the parking lot.

Actually, if you can weasel your way out of Ikea there's a Sam Moon off of 35W in North FW. Another gun shop not mentioned is the one in Trophy Club though I've not been there. http://www.k5arms.com

I know a lot of people have differing opinions but it's been my experience that Cabela's is fairly competitive on gun pricing though I've have to admit I've seen some outrageous pricing too.

Shootsmart is a great place to try a lot of different guns. If you go there I would suggest the private lanes so your neighbor doesn't interfere with your evaluation of the different guns.

Bigity, I'm not sure where you will be going, but to me, NW DFW Metroplex implies Tarrant County. There's lots of great gun stores in the Metroplex, but I don't get into Dallas county very much. :???:

I'm partial to Winchester Gallery, in E. Ft. Worth because they have a great selection of guns, both new and used. I'm partial to used guns myself because I'm so cheap.

Here's a link to several gun stores in Tarrant county. Hope you find it useful. :tiphat:

Yes, BUT, they do not have their rattlesnake anymore even though the sign is still up!! "rlol" "rlol"

Their gun rentals are very good there. Not sure about pricing because I've never looked seriously there.

They don't???? Oh the horrors!! That was a hallmark of going there! Rats. Haven't been there in a while. Totally agree that in their gun range(14 or 15 lanes total) their choice of pistols to rent are fantastic. About 40-50 believe it or not. Range price is incredible....for me. For senior citizens, $6.00/lane for all day. Tues, Wed, Thurs. ;-)

I go to look at their antique guns, hanging on their walls. All are for sale, and their selection is quite remarkable. I go there for research.
