Happiness is... Ddstuder's ad for a Ruger 10-22 takedown

This last April, ddstuder posted a for sale ad for a Ruger 10-22 takedown model, and I jumped on it with both feet! Nice, clean rifle, with a Barska scope, it turned out the scope was too long to fit on the stock while storing it in the bag,

Others on the various 10-22 forums recommended a UTG 3-9x32mm scope that was short enough to mount on the Takedown stock and still fit in to the bag for secure storage. I swapped out the Ruger scope mount for a Picatiny rail that mounted in its place, them mounted the QR mount thence the scope. Thought I was close to zeroing at 50 yards the other night, but the light was failing and I wasn't sure. This evening I had a chance to prove it...





The target's from about 50 yards, offhand, with CCI Stingers. Not bad for an old guy whose hands shake, now and then.

I picked up 2 NIB 50 year collector editions a few months ago and one was a take down. I used Redfield BattleZone Tac22 scopes on both rifles and each will group 3" at 100 yards with 36 gr High Velocity HP bulk boxed ammo. The Velcro flap wont close but the bag zips up fine with a lot of room to spare. This rifle is leaning against the wall ready to go and will probably never see that bag again. I still prefer my tube fed 22's out and about but these rifles have great utility. Those 25&50 round BX magazines running in 2 of these rifles will burn up a few buckets of bullets very quickly.

Disassembly and cleaning is easy on 10/22's. The bolt release and magazine release are both a tad annoying.

ddstuder is always a pleasure doing business with. I'm looking forward to more 45 & 223 ammo!

Last year I went through the same issues setting up my 10/22 TD. Here's how I solved it.

First I installed a Williams Ace in the Hole sight set. This gave me a rear peep sight and fiber optic front for when I didn't want to use the scope.

Then I added a Redfield Battlezone TAC 22 Scope on a Weaver Tactical Thumb-Nut scope mount. The mount puts the scope just high enough to clear the rear peep sight.

The scope & mount fit, unattached, in the bag and I can install it when I wish, or just use the peep sight. Removing and remounting the scope still gives me minute-of-cottontail accuracy at 100 yards, so I'm happy.

As an FFL, I'm able to pretty much get anything I want at cost (hint: the difference between a dealer's cost and what you pay is VERY small, maybe 3% most times, keep that in mind the next time you want to haggle with a dealer). Anyway, the truth is that I don't own many guns personally. I'm just picky, I guess. However, one of them is a threaded Ruger 10/22 Takedown, which I love! I still need to find a scope (thanks for the recommendation on here), but these things are AWESOME once you put a nice suppressor on them

In my opinion the volquartsen triggers are a must for the 10/22.

I have one installed in my other 10/22's. Once you have one, you will not be happy with a stock trigger.

As an FFL, I'm able to pretty much get anything I want at cost (hint: the difference between a dealer's cost and what you pay is VERY small, maybe 3% most times, keep that in mind the next time you want to haggle with a dealer). I just ordered a .30 cal can on Tuesday and can't wait for it to come in, but now that you're talking about a takedown .22 with a can, i'm starting to salivate.

You know you want one TAM. A good .22 suppressor actually is "Hollywood" quiet. More noise from the round hitting the target than from the rifle, especially if it is a bolt action variety....

Actually, although a 10/22 would be nice, it just occurred to me that I already own a "takedown" .22 in the form of an M&P15-22, which can be split int two halves. I just need a threaded barrel.....

i keep thinking i need another 10/22, after pricing out a threaded barrell etc for my current one its nearly cheaper to buy a threaded takedown or a 50th anniversary 10/22 if i could even find one

After playing with this Takedown 10-22 and wishing for a can for it, I agree - it's about as inexpensive to just get another Takedown with the threaded barrel than buying an aftermarket barrel and swapping it out on the existing Takedown. Besides, everyone can always use another gun, and I've got a grandson that'll be needing something to shoot in a few years... maybe he will inherit the current TD 10-22.

As to the images, I'm not sure what's going on but I couldn't get them to work like I had before. I'll try and repost 'em.
