I offer another article which merits some thinking. Of course the writer of this article shows his opinion, loud and clear. If we assume the facts are correct, one might say that this article could lead to perhaps more than one conclusion. I do not offer mine, but I would be interested in hearing others.

Half of cop-killers in 2013 not allowed to possess guns

Re: Half of cop-killers in 2013 not allowed to possess guns
Just more empty rhetoric by left wing liberals who manufacture so called statistics to justify their position on creating more gun law restrictions that has proven time and time again to be ineffective.
The person who wrote this stated that guns can commonly be found at gun shows & from the internet, thus bypassing the NICS checks. Well, guess what? Private sales of guns is not prohibited, and I don't know of anyone who can buy a gun off the internet WITHOUT having a NICS check before taking possession of the gun. This doesn't apply to holders of CHL's(at least in Texas).
To sum it up: more disinformation in hopes people reading the article will perceive it as truth and factual.

The "new report" obtained by Huff-Liars was authored by none other than Bloomberg's Everytown for Gun Safety.
I'll contact the National Enquirer and see what they think.

Re: Half of cop-killers in 2013 not allowed to possess guns
I was curious, because the obvious comparison to my mind was officer deaths in jolly old England, where handguns have been, for all intents and purposes, effectively banned for private ownership since 1997. So that led me to wonder how many British cops have either been shot dead since then by citizens who "have no guns", OR killed by some other means of attack, without having had a firearm on their person with which to defend themselves since most of them are disarmed while performing their duties, between the years of 1997 and 2013 - when the list I used was last updated. So, I went to this wikipedia page, and I extracted these names: http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_ ... ne_of_duty.
Here is what I came up with:
My point is this: In a society in which not just firearms, but also knives are tightly regulated or banned, fully half of the cops killed in that 16 year period were murdered with an illegal weapon, born by someone who was, by definition of carrying an illegal weapon, already felonious........if not an already convicted felon. NOT ONE of those dead officers would have been saved by even tighter laws. Not one.
There are perhaps other conclusions one can draw from the data, but the fact remains that in a country with one of the world's most draconian set of anti-weapons laws, half of all officers who died in the line of duty over the 16 year period of that survey were killed with illegal weapons.
[sidebar]It also speaks to the level of training and physical fitness - or lack of the same - that British officers are put through on the way to becoming cops........but that's just a secondary observation of mine.[/sidebar]
Here is what I came up with:
Near as I can make out from this list:Name, Rank, Age, Law Enforcement Agency, Date of Death, Cause of Death
- Keith Maddison PC 46 Durham Constabulary 1997-05-21 Collapsed and died while pursuing suspects from a stolen vehicle
- Nina Alexandra MacKay WPC 25 Metropolitan Police 1997-10-24 Stabbed

- Ian Nigel Broadhurst PC 34 West Yorkshire Police 2003-12-26 Shot
- Michael Swindells, QGM DC 44 West Midlands Police 2004-05-21 Stabbed
- Sharon Beshenivsky PC 38 West Yorkshire Police 2005-11-18 Shot
- Joseph Geoffrey Carroll PC 46 Northumbria Police 2006-04-13 Road traffic accident while transporting a prisoner
- Conal Daood Hills PC 36 West Yorkshire Police 2006-11-19 Vehicle crashed during police pursuit
- Richard Gray PC 43 West Mercia Constabulary 2007-05-06 Shot

- Adele Yvette Cashman DC 30 Metropolitan Police Service 2012-11-05 Collapsed while pursuing two robbery suspects and later died
- Andrew Duncan PC 47 Metropolitan Police Service 2013-09-22 Run over by suspect
- 6 of the 32 were shot......by someone who was not lawfully allowed to carry a gun.
- 3 of the remaining 26 were stabbed (which, if they carried a gun might have been avoided).
- 8 of the remaining 23 were killed by a bad guy using a vehicle as a weapon.
- 5 of the remaining 15 collapsed and died during either foot pursuits, riot control, or physical confrontation with an arrestee.
- 1 of the remaining 10 was killed by falling through a roof during a foot pursuit.
- 6 of the remaining 9 were killed in random work-related accidents such as being accidentally run over.
- The last 3 we killed by crashing their own vehicle during a pursuit
In other words, it is entirely possible that the stabbers who stabbed those 3 cops were also in violation of the law simply by having a knife on their persons.https://www.gov.uk/buying-carrying-knives
The laws about buying and carrying a knife depend on the type of knife, your age and your circumstances.
Basic laws on knives
It is illegal to:
Lock knives (knives with blades that can be locked when unfolded) are not folding knives, and are illegal to carry in public without good reason. [...which would outlaw most of the clip knives carried by most of this forum's members... TAM]
- sell a knife of any kind to anyone under 18 years old (16 to 18 year olds in Scotland can buy cutlery and kitchen knives)
- carry a knife in public without good reason - unless it’s a knife with a folding blade 3 inches long (7.62 cm) or less, eg a Swiss Army knife
- carry, buy or sell any type of banned knife
- use any knife in a threatening way (even a legal knife, such as a Swiss Army knife)
The maximum penalty for an adult carrying a knife is 4 years in prison and a fine of £5,000.
Good reasons for carrying a knife
Examples of good reasons to carry a knife in public can include:
A court will decide if you’ve got a good reason to carry a knife if you’re charged with carrying it illegally.
- taking knives you use at work to and from work
taking knives to a gallery or museum to be exhibited- the knife is going to be used for theatre, film, television, historical reenactment or religious purposes, eg the kirpan some Sikhs carry
My point is this: In a society in which not just firearms, but also knives are tightly regulated or banned, fully half of the cops killed in that 16 year period were murdered with an illegal weapon, born by someone who was, by definition of carrying an illegal weapon, already felonious........if not an already convicted felon.
