Where can I rent a Walther CCP?

Post by Vol Texan »

I have not yet seen one at my regular ranges here in Houston. Does anyone know where I can find one to test drive?

might check with the Arms Room in League City. They always have a lot of different guns to rent.

This pistol intrigues me as well, but I'm not ready to pay for one yet. Check the buzz on the Walther forums on the CCP. Apparently there is a lack of quality control in the manufacture of this one, likely due to it being made at the parent company's (Umarex) plant rather than the Walther plant where the PPS and PPQ are made. Some seem to be great while others have trigger and other issues. I'll be letting them work out the kinks for a while before buying a new one, and may end up going with a competing model (PPS, Shield, XDS, Glock 43, Nano) in the single stack category.

I got so far as being ready to buy one. However, the issues reported on the walther forums made me stop. The manufacturing issues are one thing, but there is quite a bit if discussion on the possibility that one of the safeties is flawed and the firing pin can rest on a live round. Basically it's not a drop safe design. Better explanation is on the Walther forum.

Which is too bad in that it fit really well in my hand, the ergonomics seem excellent.

When I was looking, one of the difference in manufacture is the feed ramps are not consistent in orientation. There are some pics on the walther forum, but I went and looked for myself. All my other guns, the feed ramp is straight up and down, but in an 8xxx, and several 10xxx serial number guns the ramp is cocked to one side, but to differing amounts probably 30 degrees.

Also the older serial numbers seem to have blued barrels, were the higher ones are silver. The inconsistency and lack of statement gave me pause. I think I will wait a year on this one until it all shakes out, my XDS's will have to do for now.
