Better yet, you can't set the gun on fire by shooting it too much to quickly.

I like how low the rail is on the tube, kinda like the UltiMAK tube/rail. Did it change the POI vs POA?

And that bottom hand guard looks nice. I wonder why they put the front rail at that height?

Looking good.

I just got around to looking at the handguards and rails on the Troy website. I really like the handguard, would like to put it and a top rail on my old faithful WASR, but yumpin' yiminy that gas tube replacement is a bit rich, $149. The Ultimak version is $98.

Of course the Troy version has a threaded adjustment to custom fig the tube to the particular AK. I can see the advantage of that, I got an Ultimak for my Zastava M92 pistol, and the tube was juuuuusssst long enough -- I have to be very careful placing it to avoid having a gap at one end or the other. It had to be placed just so, fore and aft.

The Ultimak is also a bit wider, it has some aluminum slabs (for lack of a better word) running along parallel to have something for the clamps to screw in to. It does not appear that the Troy tube has this (I guess it is secured by the tension of the adjustable cup against the gas block?)

I'm wondering if an Ultimak tube with its side slabs would still allow a Troy lower handguard to fit?

ETA: After studying the pics some more, it looks like the Troy lower handguard would not extend far enough up to have to worry about interference with an Ultimak tube.

OK, the troy handguard (short version) is on order, thank you very much AndyC. :waiting:

I have been looking for something I like a bit better than the wooden guard, but I didn't want miles of picatinny rail, which is what most of the after-market handguards have. Magpul makes an aluminum and polymer one that's not bad, bit cheaper, but I like the looks of the
Troy model.

Aim Surplus had the best price I could find, $109.95 and free shipping. VTsupply.com has it for $99.95, but shipping makes it more than AimSurplus.

I also have a secret hope that if I hold the Troy handguard up to my Zastava pistol, there will be an obvious place to shorten it and it will magically fit with little effort. Not too many options for changing out the wood handguards on the Zastava pistols yet, but we shall see. Otherwise the Troy handguard will go on my regular AK as is.
