Kudos to Scopesmith in Houston

Post by tk1700 »

Last week I made an overnight trip to Ellington Field in Houston to attend a military change of command ceremony. As "dangerous weapons and guns" are not allowed on military bases I was concerned about making the entire trip unarmed just because for a few hours I would be in a place that prohibited carrying. I even called the base security office to confirm the rules. After some thinking and google searching, I contacted Scopesmith, on Gulf freeway about 4 miles from the base, and asked if they could store my Sig for a few hours. I received a quick reply of yes and was also assured "no charge". When I arrived at the store Jose was very friendly and willing to help me out. He locked my gun in his safe and I went about my business and picked it up about 5 hours later, offering to pay but was again told no charge. Awesome customer service and very friendly!I'll be stopping in next time I'm in Houston.

I sure hope that one day we will be able to carry on a military reservation.

This is awesome. Thanks for the recommendation.

I had a similar experience at The Arms Room when I visited NASA last year. It is good to know that the local shops down in the area are cognizant of the special needs of folks visiting from afar.
Your best option for personal security is a lifelong commitment to avoidance, deterrence, and de-escalation.
When those fail, aim for center mass.
