Driving Down 77 - Things to See?

Post by Glockster »

I'm making a trip from Houston down 59 and then onto 77 all the way down to South Padre Island. Anyone familiar especially with that part of 77 know if there are interesting things to see along the way to break up the long drive? Big balls of string, largest frying pan, other Americana?

Prasek's just outside of El Campo for sausage, bar b que, kolaches, or pie...
Moya's Cafe in Refugio if you want some darn good Mexican food...
King Ranch in Kingsville (also King Ranch Store in Dowtown Kingsville if you want to drop some $$$)...

Side trip into CC to tour the USS Lexington. Joe Cotton's BBQ in Robstown, was burned down. That would be a
definite place to stop....I'm not sure if they ever rebuilt. Pure shame if they didn't.
In Kingsville....go to the King Ranch Museum. Worth the time
if you have any interest in Tx history, and, want to learn about how expansive their business really was...and
still is today. Cool guns, cars etc etc on display..
Texas A&M Kingsville has a really nice campus.
Past Riviera ....look for signs for a seafood place on Baffin Bay. I think it was called Kings Inn or something...
worth a side trip for shrimp, fish etc
Watch for Customs ck point right at Sarita.... you'll be fine headed south.....coming back they'll want to chat
you up.
Have a good trip.
