Post by lildave40 »

Looking for thought on the Tarus 40 caliber used. I found it at the pawn shop today for $199.00. It looks i great shape no wear on the slide, but never used one before.

I know a bunch of people carry and rely on their Taurus (taurii?) handguns but my experiences on three of their guns was negative. Not sure I would trust a pawn shop special Taurus unless you are just keeping it for range use (costly ammo) or truck/boat weapon.

I have a Taurus Model 66 .357 revolver that I bought in 1988. It is far and away the most accurate non-.22 cal handgun I have shot. 4" bbl, blued. That said, I have no experience with Taurus semis. For 199 sounds like a good deal on a .40. Almost worth buying just to see if it works well.

I have the same Model 66 .357 as you, and I have the same opinion of it as well. And, almost for the same reason you mentioned about the cost, I picked up one of the new PT111 G2's at a local gun show early this year for about $230. I figured with all the positive reports on it and for the price I had to give it a try. So far it's functioned flawlessly, and is a very good shooting gun. I can't say it's my EDC, or that I'll even use it as a carry. That's pretty well reserved for my BG and Shield. I do use it as a range gun and carry it when out on the farm though. Still though, it hasn't missed a beat so for.
