Night sight help needed
Hey all. Well that time of year as arrived. My birthday is almost here. I usually don't care much about it but this year I'm thinking of buying son night sights for my Sig P320sc. Problem is I've never really handled any. I've tried the you tube route but video quality is really hard to make out a difference between any of the different brands. I have narrowed my choices down to the Trijicon HDs and the SigLight set. Are the Trijicon worth the almost double the price? It is my edc and my nightstand gun too. Any help or comparison pics between the two, or even a link to a good comparison would be awesome. Thanks all.

How old is your P320SC? If its got a high round count or its an older one send it to Sig Sauer for their Sig Service plan and you will pay about the same as you would for a set of night sights and installation but you get the Sig night sights and you will also have the gun gone through by their people and all common wear items replaced as well. It's $145 and shipping but it's a great deal for an older or well used gun.

Last I knew current Sig night sights were made by Meprolight (Kimber) but a few years ago were made by Trijicon.

How do you explain a dog named Sauer without first telling the story of a Puppy named Sig?

Opinions on sights are very individual, so what is worth the money will really depend on your desires. The biggest thing is getting sights that are optimized for the type of gun you intend the weapon to be (fighting gun vs range gun).
What type of sight picture do you like? (three-dot, single dot with black rear, straight 8, etc)
The Trijicon HDs are a great set of sights, but they are pricey. The front sight has really nice contrast, as opposed to most standard three dot night sights.
I personally have never used the SigLights, but if you like a traditional three-dot sight picture, they may be a good fit.

My gun is still very new and has a low round count. Thanks for th heads up on the service though. It'll probably come in handy at some point. I'm accustomed to 3 dot sights. That's partly how I narrowed it down. I guess I'll just have to go to an LGS and see if they have anything in stock and go from there.

Consider the XS Big Dot.

Re: Night sight help needed
I'm a believer in Trijicon's products. I have them on a lot of different sights.....even one of my revolvers. For my semi autos, I really like the Trijicon HD line. I have them on my Springfield XDM-45 Compact 3.8, my Glock 17, my (new) Glock 43 TALO edition, my M&P45. I have Trijicon Big Dot front sights on my M&P340 snubbie and my Mossberg 590A1. My Kahr PM9 and my wife's Glock 19 have standard Trijicon 3-dot green sights. I even have a Trijicon ACOG on one of my ARs.
My point is this: you might buy some other brand, and think you're getting that brand's sights, but unless you're buying Mepro brand sights (which are imported), you might be getting Trijicons, no matter whose brand they are marketed under.
Trijicon all the way, baby!
- These sights consist of a front tritium lamp surrounded by a phosphorescent brightly colored plastic insert in Orange or Yellow. The plastic insert gets charged up by bright light, and it will continue to glow for a while in the dark. So you end up with a front sight that is VERY visible in bright daylight, and as you transition through dim light into darkness, they continue to glow for a while until the tritium lamp takes over. During the transition, you see the green front lamp surrounded by the glowing orange circle. They really are quite remarkable. The rear sight consists of two tritium lamps on either side of a broad U-shaped notch which is wide enough to accommodate the large front dot. The rear face is solid black, and serrated to cut down glare. The rear tritium lamps are inset into black plastic, so you really don't see the rear lamps until the light fades. Also, the front of the rear sights are at 90º to the slide, so you can use the sight to manipulate the slide. And the sights stand a little proud, and my guess is that they would work fine with most pistol suppressors. Glock version shown here: Trijicon HD: http://www.brownells.com/handgun-parts/ ... 42614.aspx
Here is what the front sight looks like on my XDM-45:
And here is what it looks like when you transition from light to dark:
On the Glock 43:
- These are great sights for any weapon that has a rudimentary rear sight, or no rear sight at all. I have one on my M&P340 and on my Mossberg 590A1. They are kind of like the HD sights, except that you've got a large white plastic ring surrounding the tritium element which phosphoresces just like the HD sights do.
This picture shows it on my snubbie, which has a simple groove in the top strap for a rear sight. Despite the minimalist rear sight, the big dot actually provides a very nice sight picture:
Here is the big dot sight on my shotgun. Combined with a ghost-ring rear sight, this makes a very easy to aim shotgun:

I definitely second the XS big dots for any fighting handgun, but if you personally find the three-dot picture works better for you, then I think the Trijicon HDs are a great option.

Re: Night sight help needed
I had the Trijicon HD sights with the orange around the front sight a couple years ago on both my Glocks. One is my EDC and the other is on my nightstand. Great sights. However, I do miss my Meprolight night sights a little because the tritium dots were about twice the size and very easy to pick up with my increasingly older eyes.
I've always been intrigued by the XS big dots and may try a set of those at some point.

+1 for orange front with green or yellow rear sights.
Wish they had them available for my HK when I mounted night sights a few years ago. I've got green x 3.

After 14 years the night sights on my H&K went dark, I tied the Super Glow paint as shown on you tube. Very disappointed. Get new sights and don't waste your time or money.

C-dub, the XS big dots are Trijicons.......at least the one I got from them for my shotgun is. The customer service guy at XS who helped me (in person) even acknowledged that. Drop by my house, and I'll show you the "Trijicon" branding on my XS big dot sights.C-dub wrote:I had the Trijicon HD sights with the orange around the front sight a couple years ago on both my Glocks. Yep, the XS big dots are designed by XS, but the tritium vials (and maybe the entire sights) are manufactured by Trijicon. The Annoyed Man wrote:C-dub, the XS big dots are Trijicons.......at least the one I got from them for my shotgun is. They are really great for less than stellar eyes. I've got terrible eyesight, and I like that even if I were to lose my glasses in a fight, I would still be able to pick up the front sight well enough to deliver minute-of-man shots.
This video helped me make the decision to stick with Big Dots http://youtu.be/Wl592Hfwtpg

Re: Night sight help needed
Oh boy. It's been a while since I'd checked those out and forgotten that they are Trijicon. Next time I'm over I'll try and remember to ask to see yours. I suppose, since they are Trijicon, they'll have small tritium dots. The biggest reason I like the HD's that I have is because of the BIG front orange circle around the tritium dot. Most of my shooting has been during daylight hours and that big orange front sight is very easy to acquire. The Annoyed Man wrote:C-dub, the XS big dots are Trijicons.......at least the one I got from them for my shotgun is. Re: Night sight help needed
I have trijicon HD on my 1911, basic trijicon on other 1911s, and trijicon labeled XS bigdots on my nightstand xdm. Sig sights on my 938 are nice but not the same for sure.
Re: Night sight help needed
Thanks for all the replies. I went and handled a few sigs today that had factory sights on them. With the lights in the shop on it was impossible to tell how well they would glow. But after TAMs pics of his trijicons I think I may be sold. Sadly said shop didn't have any in stock for sigs. To the Interweb I go.
