Hidalgo, Tx police chief negligently shoots himself.
Dropped his gun and it went off, supposedly. I'm dubious, since most of the public servants down here are corrupt.

In Charlotte, NC when I was a kid, there was a homeless guy (aka bum) who shot his friend 3 times over a bottle of wine. He said he dropped....wait for it....his REVOLVER and it went of THREE TIMES.

4/13/1996 Completed CHL Class, 4/16/1996 Fingerprints, Affidavits, and Application Mailed, 10/4/1996 Received CHL, renewed 1998, 2002, 2006, 2011, 2016...). "ATF... Uhhh...heh...heh....Alcohol, tobacco, and GUNS!! Cool!!!!"

Maybe it was a Taurus. Taurus factory says 6 months for me to get a new gun.

I don't see how they can force people to vote absentee at gunpoint down there. Even the dead guys get to vote, so what's the big deal?koine2002 wrote:I'm a Valley man myself. I live in Dallas but am from Weslaco (I'm actually there right now). This incident--and explanation--just fits. Also, that corruption thing. When this whole investigation is over, I'm thinking that Hidalgo County is going to make Chicago and Jersey look clean. When folks are forced to vote via absentee ballot at gunpoint for a specific (local) candidate, you know it's bad.
Luckily, I have enough willpower to control the driving ambition that rages within me.

I'm interested in that sort of story - are there any news stories to research?koine2002 wrote:I'm a Valley man myself. I live in Dallas but am from Weslaco (I'm actually there right now). Other than in the movies, what kind of service weapon that a police captain would use will fire when dropped?
Re: Hidalgo, Tx police chief negligently shoots himself.
Even Glocks can in theory fire when dropped. It takes a failure of some internal parts but it can happen.

Thanks, Koine - one of the windmills I like to tilt at from time to time has to do with election law that's never been respected in Texas.koine2002 wrote: I can't seem to find the story. It might have been further back. However, the recent story of Lupe Rivera for Weslaco City Commission is a poignant example. The big issue in the Valley is Politiqueras. Some just go door to door urging people to vote for their candidate. Others engage in more shady practices such as having elderly voters simply sign the absentee ballot and let them handle the voting, address shifting, forgeries, offering cocaine/marijuana in exchange for votes, etc. Gilberto Hinojosa, state Democratic chair, has been complicit in all this, as well. He considers vote harvesting to be business as usual. You can read more about it at http://m.watchdog.org/?url=http%3A%2F%2 ... rrer=#2815
At trial, Hinojosa argued that vote-gathering by so-called “politiqueras” were business as usual in the Rio Grande Valley.
“What difference does it make where anybody sleeps? These are families in South Texas,” the former Cameron County judge and local party boss told the courts.
In Alaska, when everyone was worried about chads in Florida, Bush lost one third of his votes. The legal statewide tally was 200,000, but adding up precinct by precinct came to 300,000. Nothing was done, no verification of the count was permitted.
Because of the law that's being violated in elections here in Texas, the same thing could happen here.
It's a long story. I've told it to every politician around, none of them care.

koine2002 wrote:I read it about during the 2014 election cycle. A handicapped fellow received an absentee ballot. Campaigners showed up at his door and forced him to vote on pain of death. It was some local office. He filed a complaint and charges were filed. I'll see if I can't locate the story.treadlightly wrote:I'm interested in that sort of story - are there any news stories to research?koine2002 wrote:I'm a Valley man myself. And then there's long-time Hidalgo Co. Sheriff Lupe Trevino, his son, and a gaggle of other cops that are sitting in prison for money laundering, stealing cocaine shipments from mules, and allowing cartel members to pass through the valley with their loads. And yeah, that one dude/chick went to jail for buying votes with cocaine.
