I already have a bullet puller to disassemble centerfire cartridges that fail to go bang or are otherwise defective, but what do you guys do with .22 LR cartridges that need to be disposed of......other than in a firearm?
I have accumulated a couple of dozen .22 rounds from various range trips that either failed to ignite, or gotten bent from a misfeed, or were picked up off the ground, etc., etc., and I need to dispose of them in a rational and safe way.......besides just burying them. I've heard of soaking cartridges in oil to render them inert, but does this actually work? Are there other methods that guarantee a better result?

A while back I was told I could take them to the police station and they would take them. The Annoyed Man wrote:I already have a bullet puller to disassemble centerfire cartridges that fail to go bang or are otherwise defective, but what do you guys do with .22 LR cartridges that need to be disposed of......other than in a firearm?

That didn't work out.
Maybe call the fire department and ask them.

Call you local Fire Department and tell them your concern. They will direct you to the nearest Hazmat disposal site.

Do you need entertainment too? Or just disposal?

I've always pulled the bullet out with a pair of pliers and poured out the powder and burned it. Then threw the brass in the scrap bucket.

I have done that as well, but the brass still has primer material which needs to be dealt with.Bayoutalker wrote:I've always pulled the bullet out with a pair of pliers and poured out the powder and burned it. Then threw the brass in the scrap bucket.

That's where penetrating oil comes into play.WildBill wrote:I have done that as well, but the brass still has primer material which needs to be dealt with.Bayoutalker wrote:I've always pulled the bullet out with a pair of pliers and poured out the powder and burned it.
