Harris Publications Shutting Down

Post by Excaliber »

Harris Publications, which publishes some of my favorite firearms magazines (Combat Hanguns, Tactical Weapons for Law Enforcement, Survivor's Edge, etc.), is reportedly going out of business according to this article from Firearms Blog

This is sad, but not too surprising. I think it is happening with many print magazines.
In my younger days I had several subscriptions to these magazines, but now I only have the NRA magazine coming to my house.
Also, whenever I went to the grocery or drug store I would browse the magazine aisle and pick up a gun or computer magazine.
Now I rarely do that.

I get the email for the web version. No dead trees for me...
Gun control is like stopping drunk driving by making it harder for sober people to drive.

NRA digital is very nicely done on my ipad.

What really ticks me off with most magazines is that they lowball price new subscribers and highball price for the faithful subscribers. I know that they do it to stimulate new subscriptions but I hate to pay $24 for a year when someone else gets it for $14 a year.

I still hate to see any gun related magazines going under.

A lot of times I prefer paper copies of magazines to read. I stopped buying gun mags ages ago because all the articles weren't neutral enough. They were nothing but glowing ads for whatever was being talked about or "tested". I didn't feel like reading multi page ads when I wanted meat and bones information. A lot of hunting mags are going this way to.

I too prefer paper. I've tried the whole e-magazine e-reader thing and there's just something to holding your magazine.

They will be like vinyl some time, and have a resurgence I hope.

You might give Gun Tests Magazine a try. They buy the guns from retail outlets, test them, and give you the full results - warts and all. They are not beholden to any advertisers because they don't accept any advertising. It's probably the single best printed source for legitimate gun test results. They also have a searchable web site you can use to pull up results of their years of past testing if an article on the purchase you're thinking about wasn't done recently.

That's why I go to http://www.thetruthaboutguns.com/ When Remington first put out that excuse for a pistol they were the only one's to tell that it was problematic while everyone else was writing glowing "reviews." They also exposed the truth about what Freedom Group and Remington did to AAC when they bought them. The following year Remington actually kicked the guys from the truthaboutguns.com out of their shot show booth because they report on the R51. On the other hand they did give a good review on the 380 Remington put out.
