Anyone know of any truly e-x-t-r-a w-i-d-e rifle gun socks?
I've recently changed the setup on one of my rifles to include a 50mm objective scope and a BU red-dot set 45 degrees off to the side, this on essentially an AR-10 type platform. I'm also trying to get just one more rifle tucked into the safe (safes are expensive and take up space!) and the only way that will happen is if the firearms are packed in against one another.
So I went looking for suitable gun socks.
Midway offers the "MidwayUSA Silicone-Treated Tactical Rifle Gun Sock" (http://www.midwayusa.com/product/939498 ... e-gun-sock) supposedly designed to stretch to fit over an AR platform with an optic, but nowhere in the specs or any of the 116 reviews is it ever stated how wide the sock is. And the accompanying photo shows it barely going over an AR with an EOTech.
Looked at Cabela's product--http://www.cabelas.com/product/Cabelas- ... 741486.uts--but the extra wide version comes only in a 52-inch length, and is only 4 inches wide unstretched. Not very extra wide when you consider the standard version is 3.5 inches wide.
I bought a couple Allen Tactical Gun Socks ("fits scoped and non-scoped tactical firearms") in a 42-inch length (https://www.natchezss.com/allen-42-tact ... black.html). They came in measuring 5.75 inches unstretched, and max out at about 9.5 inches wide. Those two will work for a couple of my AR-15s with red-dots and magnifiers, but no way will it go around the .308 even if I'm willing to remove the scope covers and try to force-fit it.
Took a measuring tape to the AR-10 and the largest diameter, around the base of the grip and over the forward edge of the scope's eyepiece, is 23.25 inches. The red-dot sits forward of the ejector port and magwell, so the next largest diameters are 18 and 19 inches. There's a Harris bipod on the gun which is going to make getting into any gun sock an adventure, but I can make that work if I can find one wide enough.
Based on the measurements, I need something that will comfortably stretch to 12 inches wide. I wouldn't mind it even slightly looser.
Does anyone make such an animal? Or am I relegated to finding a place that does clothing alterations and getting them to sew two of the Allen socks together for me?

Re: Extra Wide Gun Socks?
I have one from Bass Pro, RangeMaxx, that fits my rifle with the red dot mounted easily (probably identical to the Midway one). But I don't put my scoped or red dot rifles in the safe mounted - too much banging around in there.

Thanks! Hadn't heard of them before. And since they refer to their product as "soft gun storage cases" and not gun socks, they never hit my search radar (looked at their website page meta keywords, too, and no mention of "gun sock"). They look like a thicker fabric than the typical gun sock, and with a Velcro flap closure rather than the usual drawstring.Zombified wrote:I have a few of these. They're bulky, but should give some added protection.

They're about twice the typical price for ones that they have in stock, and I'm sure pricier still for custom ones...but they do custom! Which might be well worth it. I'll call them later today and keep the results updated here.

Re: Extra Wide Gun Socks?
Yes, they are extremely difficult to find on the web unless you know what they're called.
